II. Description and Analysis
Before we arrived in our destination we already encountered number of canters with
sand and gravel to be brought in different destinations. As we arrived there we
saw people working and we also saw the crushers that gets the sand on the river.
At, first we were shocked when we saw the river because we didn't expect that
the water will bw as well dirty as that and all parts of the stream was already
quarried. As we interview those people that were involved in this kind of work,
we learned many things about quarrying here in our places. According to them, there
are also benefits of these quarrying industry to the baranggay where it was sited.
They give donations for the fiestas, they also provided water pumps and they also
donated baranggay sheds. There were many people involved in quarrying industry.
If quarrying will be prohibited then there are also alternative means of livelihood
that employs that can work on again with. Businessmen said that they feel no fears
on what will be the effects of this business because quarrying also helps make the
rivers clean by getting the sand and gravel and as what they've said that this will
not cause erosions and floods. We also ask those people living in that area. They
state that when quarrying industry was sited near in their places, they felt afraid
of what will be the cause of this.

Even though quarrying did a great help in our economy, still, this must be stop
because if this will continue the out coming result will worst, and our environment
will be more destructed. This quarrying industry is hard but there are still
possible solutions that can help or can give a little to save our environment.
First, we can put posters and slogans to where quarrying is sited, to test the
conscience of the businessmen and workers. On the other hand, we can also approach
an individual which has a friend on a higher position in the community, that
quarrying must be stop. Of course, we must have the file of documents and pictures
to prove that this kind of business must be stop because it destructs our environment,
that the coming generation cannot use again our natural resources. We must also
plant trees that were cut down. And most of all, we must clean our surroundings
and avoid the things that can harm our environment. We can also educate other
people on protecting the environment by teaching them the proper way on how to
maintain, nourish and protect our virgin forest in some part of provincial area

Q: Is quarrying considered as a problem of environment?
A: According to DENR Officer that we interviewed that quarrying is not considered
as a problem of the environment unless if it follows all the rules and regulations
in quarrying and has a permit that proves that the operation is in good condition
and all the necessary requirements are cleared.
