Tuesday, July 16, 2002. Ralston Nagata's residence - 1821 Laukahi Place, Honolulu, Hi 96821, phone 373-9357. Attendees (the biggest attendance of all, thanks to some pushy broad who "forced " everyone to come): Ralston and Pauline Nagata (of course, his house!), Naomi (Nakayama) and Melvin Matsumoto, Irene (Akiyama) Yamamoto, Bobo Claveria, Ken Sakai, Herbert Hamada, Arlene (Yanagihara) Yoshizumi, Patsy (Onuma) Nakamura, Ainsley Ah Sing, Byron Muramatsu, Craig Miyamoto, Beryl (Kam) Lau, Leslie and Donna (Saito) Hoshide, Michael Chun and brother-Stuart, Gail (Tokeshi) Okata, Idamae (Fong) Hamasaki, Aloha (Daisy Makaimoku) Gellert, Dennis Ueyama, Peter Yanagihara, and Benny Matsubara. Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at 7:31 p.m. by Ralston. Minutes of the June 18 meeting were circulated and accepted. Ralston announced that Matthew Daog had suffered a stroke and may not be able to attend the reunion. A card was passed around along with the book "Chicken Soup for the Indestructible Soul" for everyone to write a note on the front page of one of the stories in the book (these were later mailed to Matthew from the committee with our love). 1. Committee Reports: a. Grad Nite � Donna reported that everything is set. Dinner to be served at 7:00 p.m., there will not be tables and chairs for everyone to sit at the same time, a small dance floor will be set up. Suggestion was made that the dance floor be set up outside on the lanai to dance under the moonlight, which brought about a little laughter. Leis will be sewn from 12 noon in the hospitality room and given to out of town grads on this night. The HHS banner will be hung and taken to the hospitality room to be used for Banquet Night. Scrip need to be purchased for alcoholic drinks and soda (not punch). The reception committee will need to have someone sell scrip at the reception table. Peter Yanagihara will be the emcee. Donna reviewed the schedule for the night. Jensen Pakele to bless food. She still needs trivia from everyone. Naomi requested drivers for grads who need rides from the hotel to Waialae CC and back � Byron, Craig, Arlene and Daisy volunteered their cars. Reminder � dress code for this night is Aloha attire, men need to wear long pants and shoes. b. Hospitality � Bobo said to contact him, Ken Sakai or Ainsley to donate anything to the hospitality room. c. Prizes � The donations committee is now defunct but Benny Matsubara came through with the following donations:
Other donations: Two $50 Sam Choy certificates from Howard Kam & Co., Aloha Gourmet package from Howard Lum, room and golf packages. d. Banquet Nite � Daisy reported that everything is all set. There will be 11 tables with 8 chairs each. A firm head count will need to be given to the hotel 3 days prior to the date. Balloons for decorations cost $80. Steven Nitura will give the blessing. Dinner will be at 7:00 p.m., no-host cocktails 6:00-9:00 p.m. (3 hour minimum). Arlene will be responsible for extending the cocktail hour past 9:00 p.m. Ralston and Pauline Nagata, Naomi, Herbert, Arlene Matsubara, Arlene Y. will lead everyone in bon dance. e. Finance � Melvin reported a balance $15,146. He paid Arlene $1,885 for the hotel rooms and 3 nights for the hospitality room. Balance $13,261 + $2,375 received = $15,637 new balance. f. Golf � Course has been changed to Ewa International. Les Hoshide is responsible to let everyone know of the change. Golf starts at 10:45 a.m., everyone needs to be there at 10:00 a.m. There are 34 players. g. Hotel � Arlene will know by next week what floor the rooms will be on. h. Registration � Naomi reported 95 have signed up for night 1, and 90 for night 2. i. Souvenirs � Patsy has placed the order for shirts with 30% extra shirts. The shirts will be distributed at the hospitality room, on Friday and Saturday nights, with the extras to be given as prizes. A number of questionnaires still need to be filled out. j. Reception � Herbert reported for chair June (away on trip) that name tags are done except for new attendees. The committee will have someone selling scrip on Friday night. k. Registration � Naomi reported $1315 received. l. Prizes � Daisy will take care of door prize tickets. Michael Chun was "appointed" to use $1,000 of the money donated to buy certificates in various denominations from stores, restaurants and markets to be given as door prizes. 2.
