Tuesday, April 23, 2002. Ralston Nagata's Residence, 1821 Laukahi Place, Honolulu, Hi 96821, Ph: 373-9357

Attendees: Naomi (Nakayama) and Melvin Matsumoto, Donna (Saito) and Les Hoshide, Irene (Akiyama) Yamamoto, Bobo Claveria, Ken Sakai, Ralston Nagata, Craig Miyamoto, Patsy (Onuma) Nakamura, Byron Muramatsu, Aloha (Makaimoku) Gellert, Idamae (Fong) Hamasaki, Gail (Tokeshi) Okata, Ainsley Ah Sing, Arlene (Yanagihara) Yoshizumi, Arlene Matsubara (Ben's wife), Beryl (Kam) Lau.

Call to order: Meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. by Ralston. Minutes of the March 28, 2002 meeting were approved as circulated.

1. Committee Reports:

a. Program (Friday, July 26): Donna distributed a program timeline to committee members for grad night. She was happy to report that we have a bunch of trivia collected from people and will use them as ice-breakers. It was unclear who would be emceeing grad night at the Waialae County Club so she requested confirmation from Ralston at the next meeting. The Hawaiian buffet will be open for service at 6:30 p.m.

The following suggestions were discussed: presenting lei to all attendees, decorating WCC with blue/gold balloons, hanging the HHS banner. Donna will look into the price of lei and Aloha will contact her friend to reserve her plumeria tree so the committee can possibly sew lei. The banner will hang at a location at WCC selected by Donna.

It is important for all attendees to know that there is a dress code for WCC. Shoes are required and men are required to wear long pants.

b. Program (Saturday, July 27): Aloha reported on the talents of Fabulous Woody (aka David Salisbury) a disc jockey who would be willing to provide music and entertain the attendees at Ala Moana Hotel from 6:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. Fabulous Woody brings his own equipment, has a collection of 10,000 records and will consider any program suggestions.

The cost for Woody's services is $600 however with a generous donation of $100 from Hank Gellert, Aloha's husband, our cost is $500. The committee agreed to hire Woody and Aloha was given a $200 check to hold our reservation. A final payment of $300 is due at the beginning of the evening on July 27. Aloha and Idamae will decide on the program format for the evening and present a timeline to the committee at the next meeting.

A suggestion was made that the committee members do something special to entertain the audience on banquet nite...the matter is pending...

c. Golf: Les reported there have been only 8 responses so far. There are a total of 40 openings available and Hickam needs to have a count of the number of golfers.

d. Finance: In addition to the balance reported last month, Mel reported we have added $1,970.00 in new monies from reunion registration fees.

e. Hotel: According to Arlene the lowest rate offered to reunion attendees ($89) provides rooms on floors 6-10, city view, Waikiki tower, at the Ala Moana Hotel. The hospitality room and higher priced rooms are located on the upper floors. There are a total of 8 rooms presently reserved for attendees. In order to get the hospitality room at no cost we need a total of 30 reservations. A question was posed: if we do not have the required number of rooms to warrant the free hospitality room can we still get a discount? Arlene will check out this possibility.

f. Registration: Naomi reported we have approximately 70 confirmed reunion attendees. Every committee member was given a list of classmates to call to encourage attendance at our 40th. The registration committee will cooperate with Craig in informing all the attendees through email of reunion developments. For those who do not have email, they will be contacted by telephone.

g. Souvenir: Patsy showed us the HHS logo on the t-shirt and reiterated what shirt colors and styles are available. Byron reported a French-cut women's t-shirt is also available for $10.00. He also suggested we have a cut-off date for ordering shirts so they will be ready to distribute at the reunion. It has been suggested we have additional shirts printed to offer attendees at the reunion. No action was taken.

h. Reception: June and her committee have everything under control and are ready to start production of the name-tags.

i. Public Relations: Per request, Craig will print the reunion registration form on the HHS website. The website is located at http://www.geocities.com/Hilo1962.

2. Next Meeting: Tuesday, May 21, 6:00 at Ralston's

3. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 9:25 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,
Beryl (Kam) Lau
