Call To Order: Meeting was called to order at 8 pm by Co-Chair Ralston Nagata. (Co-Chairs Ralston & Matthew Daog take turns conducting the meetings.) Minutes of the January 30, 2002 meeting were approved as read & circulated.

1. Committee Reports:

a. Golf: Bobo Claveria reported for Les Hoshide/Ronald Hirano that they would be holding a subcommittee meeting and will report back at the next Reunion Committee meeting, and that arrangements were confirmed for the golf outing to be held at the Mamala Bay Course at Hickam Air Force Base on Friday, July 26, 2002. Registration information was included in the newsletter mailing sent to all grads in October/November 2001.

b. Finance: Mel Matsumoto reported that the current balance in the checking account is $10,536.67. However, if we deduct expenses that have already been paid, our actual balance is $9,800. This includes receipts from early registration for the reunion events.

c. Hotel: Arlene Yoshizumi reported that the Ala Moana Hotel will now make available $89 rooms (city view, Waikiki Tower), in addition to the $99 (mountain view), $109 (ocean view), and $129 (deluxe) rooms offered earlier. She will call all those who already registered to inform them of the new offer. It was decided that if we are not able to fill all (45) rooms that the hotel has on hold for us, and therefore not able to get a free hospitality room, we would pay for the hospitality room as a reunion expense.

d. Program: Donna Hoshide confirmed that Mike Nakasone will bring two persons to help him perform from 6 pm - 8 pm on Friday, July 26th at Waialae Country Club. It was decided that we would invite these persons to enjoy the food & festivities also. In follow-up to the suggestion of having an ice-breaker that evening, trivia questions about grads are being solicited from all. Reunion committee members were asked to submit at least one question before leaving the meeting.

e. Prizes/Donations: In the absence of any committee members, it was discussed that it is extremely difficult to solicit from businesses during these tough economic times, and thus, we would all try to get whatever we can. However, if we are not able to, then we would consider purchasing one or two big prizes (trips, golf tee times, restaurant certificates) if funds are available. It was also suggested that instead of an outright lucky number door prize, we could raffle off the prizes that we purchased, so as to recoup some if not all of the expense that went towards the purchase of prizes.

f. Souvenirs: Patsy Onuma shared the sample logos on printed t-shirts and polo shirts with Byron Muramatsu modeling the shirts. It was decided that we would order the t-shirts in navy blue, and the polo shirts in white with the specially created Hilo High logo.

g. Public Relations: Craig Miyamoto reported that there had been requests for release of our reunion e-mail list of addresses. It was decided that we would not release the information, but that anyone can contact Craig so that Craig can in turn disseminate information to all grads as we do with the reunion information, or Craig can e-mail the specific grad to have him/her contact the person trying to reach him/her.

h. Reception: No report, but per last meeting, June (Takahashi) Iki reported that all was in order and she could use anyone's help with reception duties at the events.

i. Registration: Naomi Matsumoto reported that we have 43 early registrants plus presumably, the entire reunion committee which makes the total around 65 with 5 months remaining. Reunion committee members were reminded that they all qualify for early registration fees.

j. Newsletter: Ralston reported that the next newsletter will be prepared for mailing at our next committee meeting and will include acknowledgements to holiday well wishers, and information updates on hotel, shirt orders, trivia requests, and anything else we need to communicate. Main thing they sign up to attend and send their $$$$.

2. Next Meeting: Thursday, March 28, 2002 at 6 pm at Ralston's.

3. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 pm

Respectfully submitted,
Donna (Saito) Hoshide
