Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at 07:28 p.m. by Co-Chairperson Matt Daog. New attendees Idamae Hamasaki and Cheryl Tuzon were welcomed.

The Minutes of July 27 were approved as posted on eBoard.

1. Committee Reports:

a. Banquet Accommodation: The hotel Banquet Menu was dropped off by Arlene Yoshizumi for the Committee to discus. Two choices were presented. The first choice was a 2 entre course for $24.00. The second choice was a 3 entre course for $27.00. Tax, tip and gratuity needs to be added to the cost of the menu (approximate 20% of cost). In addition to the choice of entre, a cut of meat for $5.00 was possible. A question about the cost of corkage fee was brought up. Due to the confusion on all the possible choices of entre, salads and beverages, the Reunion Committee wanted a recommendation from the Accommodation Committee to make a proper decision. The decision on a banquet menu was deferred to the next meeting.

b. Grad Night Accommodation: Donna reported that Grad Night will be on Friday, July 26. 2002 at Waialae Country Club. The format will be Pupu Style Party (the number of tables and chairs will be up for discussion in a future meeting). Start time will be 6:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Beverages will be No Host Cocktail (pay your own). The Reunion Committee voted for Hawaiian Food and theme. The Hawaiian food will be comprised of poi, kalua pig, lomi lomi Salmon, tossed greens, sweet potato, chicken long rice, haupia, cake. If extra money can be found, Donna suggested that the Committee hire the EbbTides to provide entertainment. The EbbTides know how to play Oldies but Goodies that will set the tone of the party. During breaks Mike Nakasone and Michael Payton can continue the entertainment. Karaoke singing will be available for all other talented people.

c. Grad Night Program: Matt reported that the Grad Night Theme is 62 Aloha. The attire will be casual (wear your brightest aloha shirt or your sexiest muumuu). The program will start with a welcoming by Ralston and/or Matt. Michael Payton will entertain for 2 hours (this is based on if no money can be gotten and the Ebb Tides are not hired). Sometime during the evening the golf committee will announce the golf tournament winners. The committee will have some mixers planned. The rest of the evening will be spent renewing old friendships and mingling.

d. Banquet Night Program: Daisy reported that the program for Banquet Night will be a Talent Show. Daisy will be looking for all talented school mates so please volunteer. For starters Idamae will lead in doing a Korean dance, Cheryl will lead others in doing a Portuguese dance. Banquet Night will start at 6:00 p.m. and end at 11:00 p.m. Sitting arrangements will be open (first come, first serve). Dinner will start at 07:00 p.m. Talent Show will start at 08:00 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for significant personal accomplishments by classmates. The Banquet Night Program committee will come up with a number of questions for the classmates to fill out for significant personal accomplishments. The questionnaire will be added to the form provided by Patsy so only one mailing of questions will be mailed out to the classmates.

e. Hospitality: Bobo reported that the Hospitality Room will be open both day and night from Thursday evening until Sunday noon.

f. Finance: Dennis reported that the Hilo group turned over $6,884.98. Dennis opened a checking account at American Saving Bank. A single signature will be required on any check. Dennis Ueyama, Mel Matsumoto and Byron Muramatsu are authorized to sign. The Mainland group led by Alma Sakoda offered to turn over their money for this reunion. The Reunion Committee decided to tell Alma to hang on to their money for any future gathering on the Mainland. Dennis also reported that he has reimbursed Ralson for $204.00 (postage stamps) and Naomi for $309.81 (printing).

g. Golf Tournament: Ron reported that 10 tee times have been reserved at Mamala Bay CC for the golf tournament. Very soon a tentative feeler needs to be passed out to the classmates to get a tentative number of prospective golfers.

h. Prizes/Donations: No report. Everyone should be looking to get donations/prizes so the reunion will be successful and memorable.

i. Reception: June will be looking for more volunteers to help her with the registration table.

j. Souvenir/Memorabilia: Patsy had Byron bring some sample shirts that his friend could make for the reunion. The cost for polo shirts will be between $15.00-$20.00. A logo will be put on the shirt. The logo to be used will be decided in a future meeting. Patsy also passed out a questionnaire. The questionnaire needs to be filled out by all classmates so a memorabilia can be produced from the information provided. The questionnaire will be included in the next Newsletter.

k. Newsletter: Ralson reported that the next newsletter will be finished by the end of October. The Newsletter will be mailed out in early November.

l. Public Relation/Publicity: Send your email address to Craig to receive any email information. Mike Chun will contact the Hilo High Foundation to have our reunion listed in their newsletter.

m. Phone Tree: No phone calls will be made on the next meeting. Each member should read his email or the eBoard to get the next meeting date/time/place.

2. Next Meeting: 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 26. Any Chairperson not able to be present must email his/her report to Naomi at [email protected]. It is critical that there be a report from all committees, as the reunion is only 9 months away. Need input for next mail out.

3. Meeting adjourned at 09:03 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Byron J. Muramatsu
