E.J. Brown    the Heart of Hillview
We're pleased to announce that the Dayton Public Schools Board of Education will reopen E.J. Brown elementary school in late 2008.

The original E.J. Brown was built in 1916 on the site of a former amusement park called Fairview Park.  There weren't many streets or houses in this area then, and it wasn't part of Dayton yet.

Once the school was planned, the Hillview neighborhood started to take shape.  Developers bought the nearby farms, divided the land into lots and built houses.  The houses sold to people who wanted to live near the school. The city annexed the area in 1918.

Everyone in Hillview is eager for the new school building to open, and we're betting that E.J. Brown will be good for Hillview again.
The school is named for Edwin Joel Brown who was superintendent of Dayton Public Schools.
