Book Fair/Fall (Barnes & Noble)   Coordinate Book Fair with vendor (Barnes & Noble). Line up teachers to read to the children.  Solicit volunteers and advertise book fair. Buddy   Coordinate and match up Hillside "Buddies" to new Hillside families. There are two main deadlines for bundles to be sent, Fall and Spring.

Fifth Grade Coordinators   Organize fundraisers to defray the cost of special 5th grade activities.  Work on 5th grade portions of the yearbook. Organize lunch schedule, money collection and food ordering for the lunches on M/T/W and snack and drinks all week.   Requires a large and active membership of 5th grade parents to help run all of the various fundraisers. Also requires a large number of volunteers (any grade) to serve lunches on Monday, Tues. and Wed. during the school year. Volunteers are responsible for finding replacement if they cannot show up. Fluff and Stuff (NEW)   N/A   Volunteer an occasional hour or two whenever a committee needs an extra set of hands.  Stuffing, collating, copying, etc. This is a great way to get involved without making a major commitment! Fun Time   Plan and coordinate events for the children on two of the half days of school during the year.   Assist with refreshments, check-in and clean-up etc...   Twice a year, during teachers conference weeks
Gifts and Grants   Act as a liason between faculty and PTA. Compile a gift list and grant list from teachers and review with recommendations to the executive board of the PTA. This list will be presented and voted on at the June 2005 PTA meeting in by the membership.   Help review Gift and Grant applications and requests for recommendation.   Starts in late winter, early spring of 2005 for the year 2006. Requests are reviewed and presented in June so teachers will have items before the beginning of next school year.
Gifted and Talented Children*   Advocay group for academically G/T program as well as a liason between all G/T teachers and the school. Attend a few town-wide meetings regarding the Gifted and Talented Program.   N/A   2 or 3 meetings per year
Habitat Garden   Help design, plant and implement a series of gardens on the school grounds which will complement the school curriculum. Work with Hillside teachers on projects and garden workdays. Organize summer watering, caring schedule for parent volunteers.   Help with organization and planning of activites and garden projects and helping out the teachers on garden days if needed. Also a rotation of parents needed for summer watering and caring of gardens.   Most of the year execpt winter
Halloween Hoopla   Organize a craft or game for Hillside's booth at the town-wide Hoopla at LHS on the Sunday before Halloween.   Assist in creating idea for craft/game and help work at the booth.   Usually the Sunday before Halloween
Helping Hands*   Coordinate volunteers to assist families in need within our school, i.e., meals, car pools, clothing, etc... Also coordinate Hillside's participation in any situation in the Livingston Community taken on by the town-wide Helping Hands Committee (usually a family crisis situation). Organizes the Father's Day Bagel Breakfast fundraiser and other fundraisers only as needed.   Volunteers needed as needed to help with meals, carpooling, shopping, clothing, fundraisers etc... Hillside Carnival   Plan, coordinate and facilitate our fun-filled School Carnival. Arrange for variuos activities with vendor and coordinate volunteers.   Work on various activities, set-up, clean up, work at booths, serve food etc...   June
Historical   Create a scrapbook of all mentions or pictures of Hillside students or staff appearing in the local newspaper. Hobby Hour*   Arrange for various 1 hour (after school) classes for  2 days a week - 4-week sessions offered in the Spring.  Arrange for volunteers to help supervise the children going to these classes. Holiday Gift Shop   Co-chairs select and order items to be sold at a holiday gift shop for the students.   Volunteers help children with their selections and purchasing for family and friends during school, hours. No Siblings Please.   End of November or Early December (Depends on Chanukah)
Hospitality   Responsible for refreshments at all PTA meetings and other school functions as needed. Coordinate volunteers on a rotation for all events. Help host a senior citizen luncheon once a year in the Spring.   Volunteers needed to rotate PTA meetings and school functions. Responsible for purchasing coffee, refreshments etc. as well as set-up and clean-up for each event.   All Year. Starts the week before school with a "Back To School Lunch" for the teachers and a "Newcomers Tea" on the first day of school.
Human Relations*   A committee to encourage our children to help those that are not as fortunate as themselves. Coordinate several events or drives during the year to emphasize service to the community such as Halloween candy, Thanksgiving food and winter clothing drives.  Also a drive to collect items for a townwide event on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.   Assist in the planning and execution of these events or drives.   All year, busiest in December and MLK day.
Kindergarten Prep                                                                                                                                                                                                                        (formerly Pre-K Program)   Organize monthly sessions for next year's incoming Kindergarteners to familiarize them with Hillside.  Arrange for volunteers to assist.  Work with office staff to ensure registration of all students for Kindergarten.   Assist children in monthly, one hour pre-K programs.  Activities include story, art project, and meeting with specialty teachers and administration. Lunch Program Volunteers   N/A… Works under 5th Grade Committee for lunches on M/T/W and snacks and drinks all week long. Media Center   Work with Media Specialist to assist in the smooth running of the Media Center primarily by organizing volunteer schedule for each class.   Assist in the Media Center, checking books in and out and re-shelving books upon return. Mother's Day Plant Sale   Co-chairs order plants and run this "flower shop" for the children in May.   Volunteers help children make selections for Mom, Grandma etc. during school hours. No Siblings Please.   May, usually Friday before Mother's Day
Multiculturalism*   The purpose of this committee is to encourage the recognition and appreciation of the many diverse cultural traditions represented in our school and to form bridges of inclusion for all students. Committee also organizes a multicultural evening or event at Hillside.  Attend several town-wide meetings.   Many different jobs, including arranging for activities/crafts at the event, decorating, publicity, set up, clean-up, etc.   All year, event usually in April or May
No-Brainer Fundraising (NEW)   Promote easy fundraising such as shopping at schoolpop.com. Research and organize other ways to earn "easy" money for our school such as collecting recycled ink cartidges etc... Publicity   Publicize Hillside School events by taking photos with your camera or the PTA's, writing and submitting blurbs for each picture and submitting them to Ellen Lazer at the Board of Education who will submit them to the West Essex Tribune for publication. Supervise volunteers if necessary to ensure that all events are covered.   On a rotating basis, help publicity chair by taking pictures of students involved in various activities throughout the year.   All year
Safety*   Make PTA aware of any safety issues at school and address with town-wide committee. Participate in two Safety Walks, one at the beginning of school, and one at the end of school.   Assist in detecting and resolving safety issues.   All year
