| Where do you go Hillel of Broward and Palm Beach reaches out to five different schools 1. Broward Community College BCC 2. Palm Beach Community College PBCC Both these schools are small campuses with a tough population of students whose main interest is to attend classes and drive home. However, during Shabbat dinners, blue and white days on campus, the semi-formal and other large events a significant number of students attend. 3. Lynn University This small, private university is unique in its student population consisting of two main groups learning disabled and athletes, a unique mix to target. They have their own Hillel group on campus under the guidance of Paula Hyman. I helped table with them to increase attendance and then on my own once a week to gain participation in multi-campus events. They refer to us as regional Hillel. The key is to find one student who will introduce you to others and work with you to promote on campus. 4. Nova Southeastern University Majority of students are graduate students of Med, Law and allied health programs. These students have formed several groups including JAMS, JLSA, and JPSA. Katy works with the NSU students, tabling, bringing in guest lunch lecturers, Shabbats, YLD, AJC and other community events. 5. Florida Atlantic University FAU was my main focus for targeting Jewish students. A majority of the campus is commuter with four residential houses and growing. Enrollment is approximately 24,000. FAU was founded in 1961. Nine fraternities and four sororities along with various student groups exist for students to get involved on and off campus. |

| What to ask when you get here? " How can you learn what on campus resources are available to you? " How will you meet people on campus? " What are the resources available to you from the Jewish community on or near campus? " What are the resources available to you within the Hillel staff and structure? " How will you clarify your goals, create your job description, understand staff relationships, get the gestalt of your campus, establish a supervisory relationship? " How will you get established in the community and establish a social network? " What tools do you need to function effectively? " How will you evaluate these structures, which are already in place? " How will you make contact that starts informal conversations with students? " What are your High Holiday responsibilities? |
