James Smith died at home in Chalk Hill, Wharton Twsp 5:30 PM Sunday 7 Feb 1892, age 73. Wife Prudence Smalley, who is ill and several children survive. A good Citizen and in earlier manhood worked on the Cumberland Road as a wagoner. Funeral Tuesday afternoon.

Deaths of the Day Mrs. Prudence Smith, one of the well known and highly esteemed women of the county, died Tuesday July 28th 1903, at her home at Chalk Hill, aged 70 years. Mrs. Smith was born January 9, 1833 within two miles of the place where she died. She was a daughter of Jonathan and Margaret Smalley and was a member of one of the best known families of the county, a number of her ancestors having been distinguished in the Revolution. Her uncle, Gen. Butler Price, was a general in that war, while another uncle Joseph Faucett and her grandfather, Jonathan Smalley, were Revolutionary veterans. On January 6, 1853 the deceased married James Smith, who was formany years a teamster on theold National Pike, and who died about 12 years ago. Mrs. Smith was a faithful member of the M.E. Church at Chalk Hill. For three years past she had been in feeble health, but was confined to her bed only four days. The deceased is survived by the following children: John ,James, and Miss Lizzie at home. Darlington Smith, Mrs. Mary Orndorff, Connellsville, Mrs. Violet Wilson, Fairchance, George Smith, Wharton Township: Mrs. Anne Zebley, South Side Pittsburgh. She also leaves the following sisters and brothers. Mrs. Druscilla Woodward, Menallen Township: Mrs. Rebecca Minor, Pittsburgh, Kansas: Mrs. Rachel St. Claire, Wilmerding: Phillip Smalley, Springfield Township. The funeral took place Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home with services by Rev. Mr. Nichol of Hopwood and the funeral was very largely attended. The interment was at Cromwell Cemetery about a quarter of a mile from the home of the deceased
