MEDIA CENTER RULES FOR STUDENTS
I. DATES FOR OPENING
AND CLOSING THE MEDIA CENTER
A. The Media Center will announce to students and staff the opening date for
student use of the library.
B. The Media Center will stop circulation of materials two weeks before the
end of school and will be closed the last week of school to work on inventory. Students needing materials during this time will be worked with on an individual basis.
II. SCHEDULE
A. Opening and closing times for the Media Center will be announced at the
beginning of the school year.
B. Students are encouraged to use the Media Center prior to homeroom, during
class with written permission from the subject teacher, and during lunch.
The Media Center is to be used for research, study, and some social reading. Students using the Media Center for socialization will be sent back to class or out of the Media Center.
III. CHECKING OUT MATERIALS
A. All books in the general collection may be checked out for a period of
TWO
(2) weeks. Students must give their name and ID#.
B. Reference books are to be used in the library. Students who need reference
books for outside use must acquire special permission from a librarian.
C. Current magazines cannot be checked out of the library.
D. Back issues of magazines can be checked out for research purposes, but
must be returned by first period the following morning.
E. Reserved books must be used in the library and cannot be checked out
without special permission.
F. A student will have no more than TWO BOOKS checked out at any given time, unless he/she is doing a research project. Students doing research projects are limited to four (4) books at any given time.
G.All books and materials are to be checked out BEFORE the end of the
period. Library Science students have to leave for their next class when
the bell rings. After checking out the material, students are to return to their
seats until the end of the period, or until their classroom teacher takes
them back to class.
IV. AUDIO-VISUAL
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
A. A/V materials and equipment MUST be checked out by teachers and
staff members ONLY. A student wishing to view a filmstrip, listen to a
recording or cassette, or view a video, must do so in the Media Center.
B. Students are not to remove any media materials, A/V materials or equipment
from the Media Center without having it properly checked out by a Media Coordinator or an authorized Media aide.
C. Audio-visual equipment and materials are to be used by students in the library,
with special permission, and only for academic purposes.
D. The copy machine has been placed in the library for student use. The cost is
ten (10) cents per copy. If you do not know how to use the machine
properly, ask for assistance. Please observe the copyright laws above the copy machine.
E. Located in the library are computers with CD Rom programs, which have been
purchased to help students with research. Students may use these computers
with the help of a media coordinator or Library Science student. Printing can
be done for 15c for black and white and 25c for color.
V. FINES FOR
OVERDUES
A. GENERAL COLLECTION
Five (5) cents per day including weekends and holidays will be charged for
each book kept overdue. Overdue charges will not exceed the original cost
of the book.
B. BOOKS ON RESERVE AND REFERENCE BOOKS
Twenty-five (25) cents per period for each period overdue, not to exceed
the original cost of the book. One dollar ($1.00) for each day overdue,
including weekends and holidays.
C. MAGAZINES
Twenty-five cents ($.25) for each period overdue, not to exceed the original
cost. One dollar ($1.00) for each day overdue, including holidays and
weekends.
D. LOST OR DAMAGED BOOKS
Students will be required to pay for any book they lose or damage. The cost
will equal the original cost of the book.
VI. PENALTIES FOR FAILURE TO PAY FINES
A. Prom tickets cannot be picked up until all fines are cleared.
B. Final grades for graduation cannot be released until all library obligations are
cleared.
C. Transcripts will not be sent to designated schools until all fines are cleared.
D. Students who owe fines will not be allowed to check out any materials until
all fines are cleared.
E. Report cards may be held until all fines are cleared.
VII. CONDUCT IN THE MEDIA CENTER
A. The Media Center is to be used only as a place for library work (research, etc.)
or study.
B. Students will maintain a quiet, orderly room conducive to study.
C. Students are expected to move around while browsing in the Media Center, but
all movement should be purposeful.
D. Students whose conduct is unacceptable in the Media Center will be subject
to discipline from the Principal or Assistant Principals.
E. No student will be allowed in the Media Center during any class period without
an explanatory note or pass from the classroom teacher.
F. The following items WILL NOT BE ALLOWED in the Media Center:
FOOD
DRINK
CHEWING
GUM
PERSONAL RADIO, CASSETTE PLAYERS, VIDEOS, ETC.
VIII. THEFT AND
DESTRUCTION OF LIBRARY MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT,
FURNITURE
The library is very limited. Prices are high and going higher. Often a missing
item cannot be replaced at any price because it is no longer available. Destroying
or stealing materials hurts everyone involved by limiting the amount of material
for student access. Anyone caught stealing or destroying library material will be
subject to disciplinary action.
IX. STUDENTS MUST HAVE A SIGNED INTERNET
AGREEMENT FORM
ON FILE IN THE MEDIA CENTER BEFORE USING THE INTERNET.
STUDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE A SIGNED FORM CAN GET ONE
FROM A MEDIA COORDINATOR IN THE MEDIA CENTER.
STUDENTS MUST ADHERE TO THE INTERNET RULES OR FACE
DISCIPLINARY ACTION BY THE ADMINISTRATION.
