Arrests, harassment not bar Kashmiris from their struggle
RAWALPINDI, May 9, 2004:
The negative tactics of illegal arrests and harassment by police and secret agencies would not threaten Kashmiri people and not force them to stop their just struggle for freedom. This was stated by Sardar Ishtiaq Hussain, Secretary General United Kashmir Peoples National Party (UKPNP) here on Sunday while talking to a group of journalists. Condemning the arrest of Sardar Altaf Khan President of UKPNP District Sdhnuti along with Qari Naseer President of Transport Union Trarkhel, he said that this is violation of basic rights and aimed to harass the people talking for rights of kashmiri people. Police is still harassing other UKPNP leaders and their families in order to silence the protest they have launched for the economic and political rights of the Area, UKPNP Secretary General said and added that the arrests have been made purely on the behalf and direction of intelligence agencies in order to harass the UKPNP leaders and carders and those who raise their voices for the political and economical rights of the people of AJK. He called upon the AJK Government and other agencies involved in this heinous crime to stop their state terrorism and repression otherwise they will face the music. He demanded immediate release of the detainees and to stop the harassment of other activists. He said that these practices of Pakistani agencies are not only violation of fundamental rights but also fall beyond the mandate of UN resolutions to which its owes its presence, and forcing or suppressing the voices of common people exposes its real face and claims it makes regarding the aspiration of Kashmiri's. The inability of local authorities and government to protect the basic rights of the people in AJK deserve immediate attention of world human rights organization and media to end this act of suppress regarding that we have approached and enlightened them with the current situation and demanded to take an urgent action to seek release of the detained leaders.Ends
