Montague, PEI to Antigonish, Nova Scotia
115.6 km td 7,494.2 km A morning ferry ride takes us to province #9 and back on the freeways of the continent. We are soon missing the slower life of the islands, and find shelter on some quieter secondary roads, after skidding down a steep gravel incline for wanting an offramp. We spend the night in Antigonish, a small town of 2,500 with at least that many students at the local st F-X university. Weekends must be quite a riot! |

Antigonish to Inverness
141.9 km td 7,636.1 km The wind is blowing our way today (finally) so we put in a 'relaxing' 140 km and are finished by 5:00. We celebrate our arrival onto Cape Breton Island with a long promised lobster dinner for Andrea, and a swim in the Atlantic while the sun is setting. |

Inverness to Sydney
136.7 km td 7,772.8 km The clouds are ominous in the morning, as is the weather report- rainfall warning in effect for the next two days. We bike 10 km north to the start of the infamous Cabot trail, and after much deliberation decide to forfeit this sidetrip, promising to return at a later date. Decision made, we head back to the transcanada and follow the rains to Sydney. We meet a fellow cross-canada biker on the way, and compare war stories. We self-congratulate each other by agreeing this venture can only be done right by staying in Canada for the duration, and by crossing all provinces. We are on the ferry to Newfoundland for the night, eager to see our final province. |
