Common Accusations and Misconceptions about Paganism

if you can't handle some sarcasm, don't read this
You worship Satan!!!
ummmmm....how about a big NO on that one...  Satan, aka the Devil, is a Christian concept...while some Pagans may recognize an "evil" diety, I personally don't know any that worship one.  Not to mention that most Pagans don't recognize a dichotomy of pure good and pure evil---that is a concept that originated from Zoroastrianism and was adopted into the Jewish religion and has trickled down into the Christian faith.  To beilieve in Satan, much less worship him, would require one to believe in the Judeo-Christian/Islamic concept of God---which most Pagans do not.
If you don't find Jesus...
Much like not believeing in the Devil, most Pagans don't believe in Jesus either, so the threats regarding neeing to "find Jesus" are not very effective.  And to be quite honest, most of us really wish people would stop losing him and knocking on our doors to see if we have found him...  And by the way---I have never *lost* Jesus to begin with...he lives in the next apartment over.
You are going to hell!!!!
ummmm...okay...everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I mean, we do have free speech and freedom of religion in this country.  Most Pagans don't believe in hell, so threatening that we are going to go there---really doesn't bother us in a theological sense.  But it is likely to be offenisive, as it displays a complete and utter disregard for the beliefs of others.  Besides, after the 20 gazillionth time someone hears those unoriginal words---it gets a little old, and pretty much looses its impact and shock value (and most of the people that walk around passing hell-bound judgment on us, pretty much think everyone but themselves are going to hell anyway).  In my experience, it just makes the speaker look like a jack ass...
Pagans hate Christianity...Pagans hate Christians...or some vatiation thereof
While I cannot speak for all Pagans...the ones I know, don't hate people based upon their religious belief.  Most Pagans choose this path after having been raised as Christians.  Many Pagans are highly educated in various religious traditions, including Christianity.  What we (speaking for myself and those whose opinion I am aware of) hate, is the hypocracy, bigotry and ignorance displayed by many members of certain denominations of the Christian faith, particulary towards people of other faiths.  One of the few philosophies that most Pagans ascribe to in some form is that all people have the right to coose their own path without interference from others and without the harassment of people that do not agree with that path, as long as they respect the rights of others to do the same.  For this reason, many pagans see prostelyzation and evangilism as disrespectful and offensive.
*disclaimer*
this is written from my perspective as a Pagan, and from my experience and observation...I am NOT some kind of athourity or spokesperson on Paganism (and if anyone claims to be--they are lying...)
