| Kikyou is a fallen angel of sorts. She was a powerful young priestess. This is why she was chosen to guard the jewel and keep it from evil. Naraku disguises himself as her boyfriend, Inuyasha, and slashes her on her back leaving her with a fatal wound. If treated right away, it would not have been so and she would have survived. She does not get it treated, and instead goes after Inuyasha because she believes that he betrayed her trust and love. He is getting the jewel while she is being attacked and she catches up tio him. With the last of her strength she shoots the arrow that seals Inuyasha to the sacred tree for 50 years. She instructs her little sister Kaede to burn the jewel with her body and falls dead. 500 years or so later, in the present, Kagome is having her 15th birthday. Little does she know that she is the reincarntaion of this powerful priestess and that she carries the jewel in her side. After shattering the jewel, Kagome sets off with Inuyasha to collect all the pieces. They are not very far on their journey when they run in to Kikyou, whos grave has been opened and a demon lady makes Kikyou a body out of dirt and her ashes. Then the old woman summons Kagome's soul into the body and Kikyou is back. Kagome somehow manages to summon her soul back but a tiny fraction remains in the body of Kikyou. And now Kikyou lives off of that little piece of soul and her hatred for Inuyasha. She also uses her Sinidamachuu to collect souls to sustain the life she has long enough to seek revenge on Inuyasha and her reincarnation Kagome. |
