FAQ

1.) How many episodes are in the series?
112 episodes.

2.) How many tails does Youko Kurama have?
I think it�s four, but there shouldn�t be any more than nine.

3.) If Yukina and Hiei are twins, why do they look different?
Two reasons: 1.) Yukina and Hiei are fraternal twins, meaning that they did not split from the same egg cell, but were separately fertilized and from different ovum. 2.) Yukina is the clone of her mother; Hiei was a creation of actual intercourse.

4.) When do Hiei and Kurama first meet?
In the anime, it has never been fully revealed that Hiei met Kurama one year prior to Kurama�s encounter with Yusuke. The explanation and story to all this was in Yoshiro Togashi�s special: �Two Shots�. In this manga, Hiei and Kurama team-up to fight against the villain Eight-arms each for their own reasons. After the battle, Hiei realizes that their techniques mesh well together and thus their friendship begins.

5.) Wait a minute� Didn�t Hiei say in the earlier episodes of the series that he and Yukina had different mothers? Why then is it revealed that he and Yukina are twins?
This is a little complicated. While Togashi-san was still experimenting with this serial, he originally intended for Hiei and Yukina to only share the same father. Later, he changes his mind and makes them genuine twins. We can assume he did this for two reasons: 1.) It�s more dramatic. 2.) It would make sense that Hiei would truly care for someone he shared the same womb with. As the audience, we simply interpret that Hiei lied to Yusuke. This is, after all, Hiei we�re talking about and lying about the past is as natural to him as sleeping.
I actually did some research and saw a few shows on the Discovery Channel regarding twins. It�s been technologically and scientifically proven that twins actually begin bonding in their early stages of life. This includes playing, kissing, holding hands, mentally communicating, and even fighting. It�s really very amazing- I�ve written a freelance essay on this and I will be posting it in this site.

6.) What does Youkai mean? Reikai? Makai? Ningenkai? Jagan? Ki? Katana? Youko? Doujinshi?
Youkai- A demonic spirit
Reikai- Spirit world
Makai- Demon world
Ningenkai- Human world
Jagan- Third eye
Ki- Life power source
Katana- the type of sword Hiei brandishes; it�s also called the �Heart of Japan� because only the very strong could carry it. It is literally the heaviest multi-wieldable sword in all of Asia.
Doujinshi- it�s like a fanfic; only it�s a professionally done manga sold and printed buy the bundle. You can only find these in Japan.
Youko- a fox spirit representing� eheh� check my Kurama shrine.

7.) What exactly is Pu?
Pu is Yusuke�s animal incarnation (almost every anime needs one ne?) This penguin is composed of all of Yusuke�s maturity, actions, behavior, and so forth. It�s eerie life depends on Yusuke�s and as Yusuke matures- so does Pu.

8.) How come Kuwabara doesn�t appear toward the end of the series?
According to plot- it�s because he was pure human, and therefore was not allowed to participate in the Makai Tournaments. That, plus� Everyone loves the other three characters� Poor Kuwa�

9.) Did Hiei actually die by the Makai Arc?
Yes. In his fight against Shiguru, there was a double hit. Hiei truly defeated Shiguru because he struck him first, however, he was still fatally wounded. As in, he lost an arm and his abdomen was severed through. Even so, he and Shiguru were revived by Mukuro via some sort of recovery machine.

10.) Is Raizen Yusuke�s father?
No. This mistake is made frequently, but Raizen is merely an ancestor. Somehow, he fell in love with a female human and made love to her. Along the lines, his blood was passed on into Yusuke�s veins. Who ever Yusuke�s real father is a question left to be answered.

11.) How do you make your layouts to your main page?
Yay! A non-YYH question! I use Microsoft Paint *gets hit with tomatoes* Yes, the program that goes along with EVERY computer. I�m sorry! But my dad won�t buy me Paintshop Pro! Anyway, I find some pics on the net, save them, edit them, scale my layout to the page measures, and put effects. It takes long for me to do editing because erasing is a dot-by-dot process. All the same, it�s fun.

12.) Is it true Hiei has a fetish for sweets?
My mom has a saying for this: People who lack sweetness in their life or spirit love sugar as compensation. To be honest, in the ENTIRE series, the only thing Hiei ate/drank was a cup of coffee at a hotel. The idea that Hiei even likes sugar most likely off-sprang from doujinshis especially circles such as REAL and Tide.

13.) How old is Kurama?
Around 500 years old.

14.) Are there any Yaoi relationships in YYH?
It�s amazing how many people ask this. I think so. That is, a non-fan one. Itsuki and Sensui share a very intimate relationship- and this clearly shows in the manga. As for the famous Kurama and Hiei pairings� well, in the manga Togashi had intended them to be very close friends. The anime productions, however, suggest otherwise. 15.) Are Kurama and Botan a couple?
*Blinks* HARDLY. I think the Filipino version of the series butchered in this idea, but Kurama is simply polite to her (of course, he�s polite to everyone). No, there definitely is no relationship between the two, but who�s to stop fans from writing fics about it? Free country right?

16.) Are Botan and Koenma-sama a couple?
*Blinks again* It�s a possibility, but the relationship they share seems similar to Hiei and Mukuro�s relationship- a caring, hating, opposite/similar, Ranma and Akane, employer to employee relationship. But like I said before, who�s to stop us from writing about it?

17.) Are Hiei and Mukuro� (You get the picture).
In the manga, it�s a higher possibility than in the anime, but by ONE episode that was omitted from the TV series. Hiei actually gave Mukuro some flowers and her father (to torture) for her birthday. It�s sadistic, I know.

18.) Is Kurama straight?
Which one? Shuiichi Kurama or Youko? Youko, I�m quite sure, was interested in both males and females. As for Shuiichi-kun� In the manga, he had a friend named Maya (the girl Hiei helped save in Two Shots) whom he supposedly cared for. Again, this detail was not even mentioned in the anime. Kurama DOES, however, have feelings (take that however you want to) for Hiei and you have to watch screen captures to see it.

19.) Why the title �Two Shots�?
This is just my inference, but here�s my reason for it: Two Shots are two friends instantly made from out of the blue (think of Huck Finn and Jim). Immediately they become very close and dependable friends who can relate to one another. This episode in the manga shows just that.

20.) What kind of youkai is Mukuro anyway?
It�s never been specified. All I know is that most of her body is made of machinery. There is an extremely vital explanation for this though. In the manga, Mukuro was physically and sexually abused by her father and to stop him, she poured acid over herself (care to read my fic Fields of Lilac? ^_^()()()). As a result, she lost half her face and all of her right arm (in the manga, it�s obviously robotic). In the anime, Mukuro was a slave and was involved in a nondescript accident.

21.) How does Kurama know Yomi?
Years ago (I mean YEARS) Kurama and Yomi were in the same guild of thieves and were fighting over leadership etc. etc. In the end, Kurama blinded Yomi. This explains why Yomi has so many ears- it�s an adaptation to his loss.

22.) What kind of youkai is Yusuke?
Half human and half �human-eater�.

23.) How old is Genkai?
She died. That�s what I heard at least. Then she was resurrected. She has the ability to change her age in battle from old, in her prime, and to her youth. So I really can�t say�

24.) Why does Botan fly on a stinkin� oar?
*Laughs* This question is interesting, and I think I figured out why. In Reikai there�s a river Styx (in Greek mythology, this is the river that souls must cross-over in the afterlife). Botan is a celestial being who works for Reikai right? It seems fitting then that she uses a boat oar�

25.) How come, when Hiei first uses the Kokuryhua, the tattoo wasn�t left on his arm?
Again, I believe there are two reasons. 1.) He hasn�t completely mastered the technique yet (well, we can SEE that, he nearly burned his arm off and it was his first time!) 2.) He didn�t use as much power as he did his second time.

26.) How old is Yusuke�s mom?
29 years old. That means she gave birth to Yusuke at 15. Now you know why she drinks so much.

27.) How old is Shizuru?
I�m estimating anywhere between 20 and 27.

28.) Is there something between Shizuru and Sakyou?
In the anime, yes. In the manga, not at all.

29.) Why does Hiei wear all those bandages and wards?
Um� I�ve went to various sites and many say he uses them to control his power (he DID have a ton of wards when he was an infant). But on a more overly analytical note, I personally think he wears them to not only shield his power, but to hide his scars (dang� I�m too emotional).

30.) Isn�t there a bigger reason as to why Kurama cares for his mother so much? Besides the fact that she raised him?
By all means, YES. I CANNOT believe the anime edited out a crucial piece of information from the manga when Kurama explains to Yusuke why he must save his mother�s life. When he was a little boy as Shuiichi, Shuiichi�s mental state was that of Kurama. Originally, he had intended to abandon his human mother once he matured in his human body, but ultimately, decided stay with her. The explanation to this is because of an accident that happened when he was around 6. In the kitchen, he was standing on a stool, reaching for a can. A plate fell from the cupboard and he slipped. Before his head could meet the tiled floor, with broken glass pieces everywhere, his mother caught him. The costs of this save, however, were permanent scars all over Shiori�s arms due to the broken plate. She nearly bled to death, but merely smiled knowing her son was left unharmed. From that moment on, Kurama�s gratitude to Shiori became infinite and immortal.

31.) Can you edit my fanfiction?
Wow! I�m flattered you asked! I�ll try, but I can give you NO guarantees. This is mostly because school is being a pain in the ass and I have quite a few things to care of in preparation for next year (Sophomore year sucks� I can�t begin to imagine Junior year *shivers* SATs� X_x )

32.) What�s the difference between Shounen Ai and Yaoi?
Ack! I suddenly realize that Itsuki and Sensui share a Shounen Ai relationship, NOT yaoi. Yaoi is a relationship in which two males have sexual interactions, however, may not (notice MAY) have any true love for one another. Shounen Ai is a relationship where two males DO love each other, but may not (again notice MAY) have sexual interactions. Lots of fanfiction are mislabeled since most simply say yaoi rather than shounen ai. The problem is that the two genres meet a median in point of love. Meaning, the two males love each other and have sex with one another (a piece that functions like this can be labeled both yaoi or shounen ai). Therefore, you can�t tell whether or not a fic or doujinshi is a pointless perversion or a wonderful romance without reading the piece of work all the way through.

33.) How many manga volumes are there?
19, I think four episodes apiece.

34.) Who created Yu Yu Hakusho?
Yoshiro Togashi, husband of the creator of Sailor Moon. His other famous works are Hunter x Hunter and Flame of Recca.

35.) Does Karasu like Kurama?
That�s an understatement; he�s obsessed with him.

36.) Are there any YYH CDs?
Plenty. I believe that it will be a while before FUNimation decides to release all of them in the states, but you may be able to purchase them on eBay.

37.) Do Sakyo and Shizuru have a thing going on?
In the manga no, in the anime- supposedly so.

38.) Why are the early episodes of YYH so poorly drawn?
*Shrugs* YYH was created at a time where publicly broadcasted anime first started out in mediocre drawings before reaching refinery. Most anime created today are good start to finish.

39.) Is there a YYH OAV?
Yes! Yes! Yes! I�m just hoping FUNimation will take the OAV under their wing and actually release it. The only time I even saw the product was on eBay. Unfortunately, so many people bided and I don�t intend on spending so much for something all the way from Japan. I forgot how many tapes there were, but I do know that there are music videos consisting of duets and solos, etc. The rest of the videos are composed of four chapters- one per character. In the OAV we get to see Yusuke in panda pajamas, Hiei and Kurama in business suits (my god, I saw a screen cap of Hiei just smiling his head off in the OAV- want to see it? go to my: Lift Your Heart section), all four of them wearing camouflage outfits, behind the scenes gags, Yusuke and Kurama dragging Hiei for a group picture, Yusuke married to BOTAN, Shiori�s marriage to Kurama�s stepfather (something only IMPLIED in the anime series), and the fun goes on.

40.) What are the Filipino dub names for the YYH gang?
Yusuke- Eugene (it�s all right)
Kuwabara- Albert (ahahaha� I think this fits perfectly)
Hiei- Vince (ha! That�s my friend�s name! I LOVE it!)
Kurama- Dennis (eek� Originally the Philippines thought Kurama was a girl- after all, his seiyuu was female, so his first name was Denise. Later, the production committee discovered she was a he. To cover up, Hiei explains to Yusuke that Kurama poses like a girl in the human world. Yeah, the production crew screwed up.)
Yukina- Michaela (pretty�)

41.) How did you get all this info?
I did net reading, especially when I was at my obsession peak (I�m still there I think, oh well! Life�s short so have fun with what you like!) I bought episodes 1-32 on fansub and I have the two movies. Most of what I know was from gathering the common opinions other people had. Other times, I had to go by my own instincts and decide the facts myself through reasoning.

42.) Why is YYH such a short series?
Because YYH was SO popular that Shounen Jump tried forcing Togashi-san to stretch the series. He tried, but it came to the point that YYH was such a hit that he had a total breakdown and stopped.

43.) How many YYH movies are there?
Two, and both are in the States. The first one is really more along the lines of a 30-minute OAV (it kind of sucked). The second was a theatrical picture that�s 130 minutes long. You can rent the second movie at Blockbuster, and that is exactly how many US fans (including myself) come to know of the series. The second movie is GOOD. I like the dub voices too; I don�t see why so many fans are complaining about them.

44.) Why do you like Hiei more than Kurama?
Why not? Okay, it�s because I love him, his character, persona, and life-story. He intrigues me. Don�t get me wrong, I love Kurama too, but Hiei always seems to outshine him� *gets clobbered* Hey! Don�t take it personally! If it weren�t for Kurama, I probably wouldn�t have loved Hiei as much as I do. Kurama shapes Hiei�s mellowing in the future and I admire that.

45.) What kind of fiction do you write?
Whatever comes into my crazy head. I�m trying to be a versatile as possible because then I�m not restricted into one genre of writing.

46.) Are you yaoist or anti-yaoist?
Well, gee� These questions are getting personal. You know what? I belong to neither radical group. If I like what I read, it really doesn�t matter to me if the fic has yaoi content or not. Besides� Lots of my friends are yaoists and anti-yaoists- God forbid I let mass opinion pick my friends.

47.) Where are Kuwabara�s parents?
Not a clue. Let�s write a fic about it shall we?

48.) Since when did Keiko know Yusuke?
Since kindergarten. Awfully sweet ne?

49.) How many girls did Kuwabara like?
A lot. First it was Keiko, then Botan, and then he went head- over- heels for Yukina.

50.) Why doesn�t Yukina know Hiei when he saves her?
This question is for those who know NOTHING about the series and this is a definite spoiler (this is an FAQ section and I�ve already shown so much- so no worries). When Hiei was an infant, he was thrown over a cliff as damnation. The Koorime consist of all females who self- reproduce their clones every 100 years. Hiei was male, and therefore, was not normal. The only explanation to his being was that Hina (Hiei�s mother) had intimate relations with a male. This, of course, is forbidden to the Koorime law (thus, Hiei is dubbed the �Forbidden Child�). The man Hina had sex with was a fire demon, and most likely- Hiei�s appearance comes from his father. When Hina gave birth to the twins, she shed two tear gems (blue pearls) for each of her children. As Hiei was about to be thrown over, Yuri- a friend of Hina- slipped one of the gems into his swaddling and told him to take revenge on her people when he was older. Hiei, although still a baby, understood everything.
He survived the long fall and was adopted by a thief guild (who really adopted him because of the tear gem he owned) and stayed with them for around three or four years. He didn�t trust any of them because they were always at his tail for the jewel he had. It came to pass, that Hiei started killing some of the thief members as a means to protect the gem. He scared the thieves so much that they deserted him. A year or two later, he loses his gem, and this loss adds to his list of goals: 1.) Find mother 2.) Find gem. Another few years pass ad at last he found the city that exiled him. Everyone acts frightened around him and immediately pay no heed to his presence. He finds Yuri and discovered his mother killed herself when he was thrown over (I�m not sure whether she did it intentionally or was executed). Hiei didn�t even blink, but found out from Yuri that he had a sister. Another tally to the list of goals: 1.) Find mother (too late) 2.) Find gem 3.) Find sister. His sister, however, already went looking for him from before, but was captured by a human to torture her for her tear gems. In the end, Hiei left the Koorime in peace.
To find Yukina, Hiei had the Jagan surgically implanted. The price for this was a decrease in his fighting power, strength, and a promise that he must never tell Yukina who he truly is once he finds her. So from all this, we can see that the twins had been separated for more than a decade. That�s why Yukina doesn�t know him at all.

51.) What are youkai classes?
It�s kind of like super saijian (or seiyaan- however you spell it) one, two, three, or four. The difference is, all youkai have a class. D being the lowest, S being the highest. Kurama and Hiei are A classes; Yusuke, Mukuro, Yomi, Raizen, and Enki are S classes, and at the beginning of the series, Hiei was a C class.

52.) What�s up with Koenma�s pacifier?
It�s been rumored it holds massive amounts of rei ki.

53.) Why does Kurama possess the unborn baby Shuiichi?
He was fatally injured in Makai and needed a body to preserve his spirit until he gained his strength back. To do this, he traveled to Ningenkai and inhabited the womb of Shiori. This being done, he pushed Shuiichi�s true soul out to make the body of the baby his. It can be said then, that Kurama murdered Shiori�s son. Burdened with wrong and learning the meaning of loving and giving, he becomes Shiori�s son on a biological and emotional level, but not on a spiritual level.
