This test has been added recently to our lab (Nov. 2001) .

Test procedure:

1- Patient should be fasting over-night.
2- Patient should not be taking I.V injections of Vit B12 or in tablet form for the last 3 days before the test.
3- A special capsule is given orally at the beginning of the test.
4- 2 hours later an I.M injection of Vit B12 is given to the patient after the patient voids urine first.
5- 24 hours urine collection is gathered by the patient at which the last urine portion is collected.
6- Result is given on the same day with the following normal value for stage 1 :   8-40 % of administered dose.
