This has been a challenging, but rewarding year, working on the hiimhomeless monthly newspaper. We started putting the Newspaper out last april of 2004. Alot of people have contributed their feelings and opinions on all sorts of different topics and events concerning homelessness in our County. Their have been homeless, non-homeless, Christian, non-Christian, and many other views from various people in the newspaper. We at hiimhomeless want you to know that your opinionated thoughts matter, too. Even if it might not be what we want to hear. A non-biased newspaper has to be authentic to back up the sincerety of its purposes. Yes, the world is changing and along with it the homeless situation is growing. There are many kinds of homeless people nowadays.

The Modesto Bee has been very successful at capturing events and happenings involving the homeless in and around our community. But they still can't beat us when it comes to putting out an original homeless newspaper, written and edited by the homeless. With our spelling errors, bad punctuation, and indepth wandering, it just doesn't get any better than this. At least not yet, anyhow. The newspaper has been read by hundreds of people and most of them gave a positive responce. "Give them something to read", God said. "Something about real people in real situations". Ken and Nicky Lane write the Curbside News and have been for many years. I look up to them and am glad that they've never given up on helping the homeless. I knew that I couldn't just envite myself to being a part of their newspaper and I really didn't know if I could be faithfully committed. So finally, one day, I started writing the Hi I'm Homeless Newspaper. Let's not fight and bicker over who gets to do this or that. We can all help the homeless people. How about, the homeless helping the homeless? Is it possible? Yes it is, but they need help. Here comes the help. It's Janice Keating with a hammer in her hand. She's riding on top of a patrol car driven by Chief Wasden. He's driving really fast with his head sticking out of the window and a big political smile on his face. Ken Lane is running beside the patrol car with nicky on top of his shoulders. She's holding a banner that reads, help the homeless or bust. They are a jolly bunch of soldiers and they won't take no for an answer.

So, if you know what's good for you, you had better give us that warehouse for a shelter and tell Arnold the Governor to get that 1.7 million dollars for Stanislaus County, and send a good portion of it to keep the shelter open year round. And you homeless start cleaning up after yourselves in the parks and start working harder on your oral hygene and public behavior so we can respectfully defend you. How can we help someone that doesn't want to help themselves? And all of you people with homes, stop running the homeless over with your cars. And stop hating every person you see that has a backpack. Just give it a break, and find out what is really making your life so miserable. You will eventually realize that it isn't the homeless people, it's your own selfish lifestyle that has gotten you into this evil hate mode. Just take a chill pill and get over it. Or maybe recieve Jesus as your personal savior, pick up your cross and follow him. Whoops, did I say that one thing that you didn't want to here. You'll want to here it on judgement day, but it might be too late. So don't wait, just do it. Make a better life for yourself and forget the money and the car and the t.v. and the house full of luxurious stuff e.t.c..

Being homeless is an adventure. I go to church, at the Mission, 5 times more than the average church goer. I here more musicles and see more plays. I get lots of fresh air and continually enjoy seeing birds, squirrels, and many other charming field rodents while taking walks for leasure time. When I was a child I never went to the park. I now go every day. The library is a hot spot for meeting people. There are convenience stores along the way, so I can always have a nice, cold, tasty, beverage of my choice while traveling through town. Different places with different faces, make for a great social time, while out and about. Do you understand what I am saying? Life is too short to pout. So grab a bicycle, take only five dollars, a pair of sunshades, a small radio, and go somewhere for the day. Try it you'll like it.
