1.1 Flow Charting 4 is now shipped on one disk.

We have compressed the Flow Charting program and its associated
data files enough that they now fit on one disk. This speeds
up your installation process. Consequently, please disregard the
instructions in the manual that tell you to put disk 2 in the
drive to continue installation.

1.2 How to un-install Flow Charting 4

When you install Flow Charting 4, most of the needed files are
copied to the directory you specify when you run the SETUP.EXE
program. To uninstall these files, simply delete all of the
files in the directory; then delete the directory. Use the File
Manager or DOS commands to delete the files.

In addition to the files in the main directory, one additional
file is created in your local Windows directory -- PATTON.INI.
This file should be deleted as well. Flow Charting 4 does not
modify any other Windows INI files.

Finally, select the icons in your Flow Charting 4 group window
and delete them, and then delete the group window.

1.3 How to retrieve a copy of TUTORIAL.GFC from the Flow Charting 4
diskette.

If you work through the tutorial and accidentally modify the
sample chart we provided, you can easily retrieve the chart file
from the Flow Charting 4 diskette. Place the Flow Charting diskette,
DISK 1, in drive A:, choose the RUN command from the Program Manager
and type the following:

EXPAND A:TUTORIAL.GF_ C:\FLOW4\TUTORIAL.GFC

The expand program will copy the file to the destination directory
you specify (in this example, C:\FLOW4).

1.4 Notes about the ALT key with certain keyboards

On certain systems and keyboards, the ALT key appears to remain
pressed even after you release it. For instance, when you type
Alt+F, you activate the file menu. If the key is stuck, typing
the letter, F, will also activate the menu.

The Alt key is used to temporarily reverse the Reflective Resizing
feature and the Stick-Lines-To-Objects feature. If your system
seems to be locking the Alt key, we have provided an alternate
method to get the same functionality.

Simply press the 'A' key whenever the User's Guide or Tutorial
tells you to press the Alt key. The 'A' key provides exactly
the same functionality as the Alt key, but it will not stick.

1.5 Fixes in Version 1.02

The following sections describe the features that have changed
in version 1.02 to alleviate problems some of you may have
encountered.

We are constantly listening to your input on new features or
problems with the software, and working on your suggestions as
quickly as possible. If you haven't given us a call yet, we
would greatly appreciate hearing from you. We cannot develop
the software without your help -- the more input you give us,
the more we can evolve the product to meet your needs.

1.5.1 Installation Failure

Some network systems were causing the setup program to report an
installation failure (even though all of the necessary files were
copied successfully). The only operation that was failing on
these systems was to mark the shape template files as read/only.

To make the installation run without a hitch on these systems,
we no longer mark the template files as read/only after they
are copied. If you would like to protect yourself from
accidentally modifying or erasing these files, you can use the
File Manager to mark all template files as read/only. Template
files have the extension, GFT.

1.5.2 Attributes Unintentionally Changed

When multiple objects were selected, and a particular attribute
of those objects was changed using one of the tool managers,
other attributes were being unintentionally changed as well.
This problem has been fixed.

1.5.3 General Protection Faults (Program Crashes)

A few of our customers were experiencing occasional program
failures. One of our debugging tools was not providing the
information we depended on to assure bug-free performance, but
we have since corrected that problem. Version 1.02 completely
eliminates these occasional program crashes.

Even though many of you have not experienced any problems, we
recommend that you upgrade to version 1.02.

1.6 Corrections to the Manual

The following sections describe changes that have been made to
the product or manuals since the manuals have been printed.

_________________________________________________________________

1.6.1 Changes to the Chart Setup dialog

The Chart Setup dialog has changed since the printing of the
User's Guide; however, the on-line help is up to date on this
topic.

To get help on the new functionality and the new dialog, press
the Help button on the Chart Setup dialog. Chart Setup is
available from the File menu in Flow Charting 4.

1.6.2 Chapter 10 - Using Flow Charting 4 on a Network

The title of this chapter may be a bit misleading. If you have
purchased a single-user package of Flow Charting 4, you do not
even need to read this chapter. The chapter applies to the
5-user network package, and explains how to configure the
product for multiple users on a network.

If you are using a single-user product, you can install this
software to any directory (on your hard disk or on a network)
without referring to Chapter 10.
