Sky said that he would publish one more Highway Poet
before hanging up his leadership mantle. He has no intention of turning in his patch! He
intends to remain a member and continue to have us benefit from his vision and contacts
and concepts. Still, it's going to be a rough haul to replace Odin at the helm! Armin, Willy and I headed out on Friday, 10 September. We
got our old spot at the Winchendon Rod and Gun Club.. Like last year, we put our tent
right next to the van of John Arms. John is an old riding buddy from way back!
The weather was fantastic all weekend, in
spite of a rather chilly Friday night. It was good to see familiar faces. Lurch was there
again; he tends to travel in tandem with John. Also, Copper was there again, with his
traffic-stopping chopper. Many campers asked me about
Sky, noticing my patch. Odin did not show, nor did ANY other poet! Lizzard and Meg
had wanted to come but lacked the wherewithal (such a common bikie problem) to pull it
off. I really had expected Odin and St. Dick to show up, as they weren't too far
away. Alas! Lizzard and I will try to put together another meeting, soonest. Odin
informs me that the publishing of the next Highway Poet could be some
time off yet, so we'll probably meet before then. I'll keep you posted.

ODIN TO STEP DOWN!

In
order to facilitate this, it was anticipated that a lot of Poets would show up at the MMA
Fall Round-Up.1998 MODIFIED MOTORCYCLE ASSOCIATION FALL
ROUND-UP
It was his son Chris who introduced Armin to the
fun of shooting potato cannons. Inspired after last year's "shoot-out," Armin constructed
his own cannon. It works great! Many a potato got lobbed across the field, just past the
pond!
Still, it seems to me that we only had about half as many
attendees as last year! Again, I think that perhaps not enough effort was put into
promoting this event. The fact that the Angels had a thing going on the same weekend
probably didn't help. The only vendor there was a fellow selling used bike parts. There
were three food vendors, but sorely missed (the third year in a row) was Margo's
Spiedis!
The fewer numbers provided for less competition in the bike games and the wet t-shirt
competition. Shortly after setting up our tent, I spied a rather attractive woman camped
across the road from us. She entered the contest and took the first runner-up position. Her
name is Lynne and I think she should have won!
Yeah! She wasn't there! But what's wrong with
a little wishful thinking?
