Ok, I finally have time to do a little updating. The season is already two race weekends old, and I haven't put anythtng up yet. The 1st weekend, May 28th, was a little disapointing to start with. Cam timing (my mistake) cost us a couple of races, man the car was a dog. But we checked on things when we had a chance at lunch and noticed we were off a tooth. Rookie mistake I guess, good thing we weren't running a fat ole illegal cam or anything haha. As I was buckling up to get ready for the IT race, I told Scott that I'd probably just go out and use the race as a tune and test. We started from pitlane and as soon as I hit the gas I knew that this race was gonna be fun! Tons more power, the car just screamed now. Made like 4 passes before turn 2 starting from pitlane!! Ahh now this was more like it. The rest of the weekend went good, and the results and laptimes were encouraging. We set a personal best in the Atlantic Challenge race with a 1:22.6.
The next race weekend was June 23-24th, and feeling that we were prepared right off the truck made things a lot better. Qualifying had us closer to the front then we've ever been and the car was feeling good and healthy. Of course some things never change and we started to fuel starve arounfd the end of the 1st race and ended up being passed on the last lap. But then Kenny Cmapbell, who had just got by me for position got caught up in slow traffic on the last couple of turns, giving me a chance to limp up into the battle. we ended up 3 wide through turn 11 and I took the worst of it being left out in the marbles. Deciding it wasn't worth it to try to hang on I just backed off and let them go. Shouldn't have even been there though anyway as he had a quite a few lengths on me before we hit the traffic. The Atlantic challenge race was with out a doubt my best race ever finishing in 2nd place by half a second. I've never been involved in such fierce battles for position, but that is what probably goes on ever weekend at the front of the pack. Off in the grass at least 4 times, a little bit of rubbing, this race had it all. And a new personal best of 1:21.6. Its cool to be involved in battles for the lead, hopefully I'll get more opportunities in the future. A great weekend though, and we brought the car back home in one piece, well except for a blown exhaust manifold gasket, but thats fixed and we're ready to go for July 28th.
We ad planned on going to Louden, NH on July 14th, but budget constraints kinda squashed that one. apparently Derek Lugar had some good runs down there and had a couple of 3rd place finishes. Awesome! I'm going to try to raise some cash for the Sept 5th Louden weekend, and see what its all about stateside. |
