May 16th Race: the May 16th
date was cancelled due to the weather at Mission Raceway. It was decide that the Rain out date for the
17th would also be canceled due to the potential bad weather and the
lack of participants that would be staying for this date, due to the fact that
it was a long weekend. Discussion
concerning the date of the Career Day/ Provincial Race date occurred in regards
to having this date at Mission in October. All participant’s that were at the
track to participate in the 1st Class Provincial Series would
receive 30 first round points for showing up on the May 16th
date. Due to the number of rainouts
that have occurred at Mission Raceway this year. The members decided that the Jun 20th Race will
continue as scheduled but the July 11th Race will be a double header
with two individual races occurring that day.

Scholarship Update: Application
Received! Disappointing, but only one
application was received. Fortunately
the applicant was first class and well receiving of any scholarship. However flow through funds had not been
established prior to this meeting.
Discussion occurred as to how we could continue the scholarship. Remove funds from the BCSSMA endowment fund?
decreasing the endowment? Motion: we
withdrawal $300 from the General Account for a BCSSMA Scholarship. Moved J.
Issel, Seconded C. Fox. Passed. Since this Meeting Canada Engines has given
the association a 350 Chev Engine rebuild kit for us to sell. As is our policy ˝ of the sell of this
rebuild kit will go directly towards this years scholarship and the other ˝
will be deposited into the
…2
endowment fund. Therefore this years Recipient
Jordan Penner from Sardis Secondary will receive the BCSSMA/Canada
Engine Scholarship ($300) As mention
earlier this is a well disserving recipient as Jordan has shown top Automotive
Marks during Grade 11 & 12, is a active participant in racing events, and
is the Provincial Champion of the Skills Canada Competition held this past
March. Jordan will be presented with
this scholarship at the June 20th Race.
3.
Web Page Updating: the recent demand of
the web page as seen that the service we are currently using ( $0 ) is not
adequate. In order to make faster transfers of information, and make completely
accessible to the www, etc, a upgrade
is required. Jim Rush explained all the
advantages of a upgrade and costs involved.
Motion: the association spend up to $60.00 a year to upgrade the BCSSMA Web site. Moved K. Moore, Seconded G. Voosen. Passed.
4.
NHRA Jr. Licensing: Over
the past year A. Mackay-Smith and G. Coates have had communicated with NHRA in
regards to creating a Jr. Dragster licensing system for High Schools. An Agreement has been reached. If members wish to register students at your
school for Jr. Dragster licensing it will cost the school $15 and $10 per
student instead of $50 per student. Contact A. Mackay-Smith for the required
paper work. This license is only required
if competing in Divisional and National events. If you are racing at local events the school number that members
are issued will be adequate. However it
is recommended that students use the proper release forms issued by NHRA.
5.
Newsletter: comments from members expressed that the recent newsletter
was very well done. It was agree at a
earlier meeting that a $150 layout fee for the newsletter was acceptable. Therefore:
How many per year and where would the articles etc. come from. Chris Williams as agree to help with
newsletters with the following conditions.
He has asked that the layout person produce a formatted newsletter and
once that format has been established, members would be “told” by Chris to
submit at article and what the topic would be! Members at the meeting agreed to this condition and decided that
at this time, 2 Newsletters per year would be sufficient. Spring (Feb/Mar) and Fall (Nov/Dec). Chris will be contacting members for articles
in September.
6.
Ashcroft Camping Fee: many fee increases
have occurred at Ashcroft including High School events, even though many
members built the shower facility at
the track. One of the Fee increases is
a $10 / night camping fee at the track.
A. Mckay-Smith as been able to work out at deal with the track. If a one time $300 camping fee was paid, any
BCSSMA members would not be charged any fees for the year. Al requested that the association pay for
this fee. This will help to subsidizes
other fee increases and promote the track for other members to attend the
Ashcroft events. Motion: that the
BCSSMA pay $200 of the $300 Camping fee and the member schools that participate
at Ashcroft pay for the remainder of the fee.
