General Meeting - Minutes

Newsletter update:
¨
Should
be ready for distribution by the next meeting (Feb. 10).
2.
BCSSMA rules update:
¨
A
concern was expressed regarding the inappropriate behavior of some BCSSMA
member schools at functions like car shows, parades etc. Apparently the inappropriate behavior
consisted of BCSSMA school-represented cars doing burn outs etc. in crowded
areas. Another concern was of the potential
liability if anyone or anything was injured or damaged as a result of a BCSSMA
Jr. Dragster or vehicle being operated during a parade etc. (since none of
these vehicles carries liability insurance).
The question of changing our BCSSMA rules to cover behavior at special
events was discussed. Although there
was a lot of discussion, no decisions were made to alter the rules at this
time. It was suggested that a
newsletter article might be a more appropriate way to convey this concern to
the association.
3.
Associate membership (follow
up):
¨
The
question of “requesting that anyone other than a teacher who wants to be
involved with the high school racing program must become an associate member of
the BCSSMA”, was discussed.
¨
The
main reasons for having these individuals become associate members were to
control who gets involved in the program and to make these people aware of
their responsibilities.
¨
The
question was discussed at length. Many
pros and cons were discussed. At this
time membership will remain status quo.
To help educate sponsors a newsletter article may be considered.

Directors Insurance:

Coverage
remains the same although the premium has gone up $100.00.

Helmet order:

Doug
Anderson is organizing another helmet purchase. Information will be available in the next newsletter or contact
Doug at Lord Tweedsmuir School.

Trophy update:
¨
The
Langley Loafers gave Doug Anderson a cheque for the 2004 season trophies (for
all 3 tracks). Each track will receive
$400 for trophies, $100 for the season winner and $50 for the season runner up.
¨
Any
funds not used for trophies etc. will go towards the BCSSMA scholarship fund.
¨
Many
thanks go to the Langley Loafers for continued support of the high school
racing program.
