Enlisted Uniform |
|
|
|
1) Standard Union uniform (fatigue dress) A) Coat: Four button dark blue enlisted man's sack coat, lined or unlined; or nine button shell jacket, lined or unlined. Shell may be either regular issue (plain cuff, eagle buttons) or untrimmed state issue (buttoned cuff, state buttons). Collar dogs may be worn on shell coat and must be either thistle or 79th regimental numbers. B) Trousers: Sky blue trousers, untrimmed. Dark blue, was correct for early state issue but was soon changed to sky blue. White cotton canvas trousers are ok for late war impression. C) Cap: Standard issue kepi or forage cap with or without regimental numbers and company letter, placed on front, not on flat top of cap; plain black slouch hat, no cords. Straw hats are also period for late war impressions. No corps badge and no bugle badge. D) Shoes: Brogans. No boots E) Gaiters: Plain canvas, leather straps. No tarring. F) Greatcoat: Enlisted infantry style, sky blue. |

2) 79th militia uniform (semi dress) A) Coat: 79th issue militia coat, thistle collar dogs. B) Trousers: Military trews in the Cameron Erracht tartan. Tartan must be in the modern style, not ancient. No other tartans allowed. C) Cap: Scottish glengarry, red/white/blue or red/white dicing. Blue Cameron hackle and New York state cap badge, 79th regimental numbers and company letter. D) Shoes: Brogans. No boots. E) Gaiters: No gaiters, no spats. |

3) 79th Dress uniform (full dress) A) Coat: 79th militia coat, thistle collar dogs. Plain brass shoulder scales are optional. B) Kilt: Cameron Erracht modern tartan with box pleats, pleated to the yellow stripe. 18 ounce is advisable, but not required. C) Cap: Glengarry as above. D) Hose: Red and white diced full hose. Dark blue or Red flashes. Hose tops may be worn with spats E) Shoes: Brogans or buckled shoes. F) Spats (optional): plain white, black or white buttons. G) Sporran: Plain leather cantle regimental sporran. Black upon white with three tassels. H) White cotton gloves. |

3) Full dress Corporal: Red trimmed shoulder scales, optional. Sergeant: Gold trimmed shoulder scales, optional. Red worsted shoulder sash or waist sash, optional. Dirk, optional. |

1) Fatigue dress A) Black belt, SNY or US buckle. Lead filled buckle is advised, but not required. B) Cartridge box and black strap. SNY or US lead filled box plate, 79th or eagle breast plate. C) Bayonet: As fits weapon. D) Cap pouch. Shield or standard design with sheepskin insert. E) Haversack. Tarred recommended, but plain is optional.
2) Semi dress A) White belt, SNY buckle. Lead filled buckle is advised, but not required. B) White strap, 79th militia or eagle breast plate. C) Bayonet: Enfield scabbard on white cross belt.
3) Full dress Same as above. |

Enlisted Weapons |
|
|
|
1) Rifle: 3 band rifle, either Enfield or Springfield. Enfield prefered. Contact 1st Sergeant regarding other makes and calibers. No 2 band rifles.
2) Other: Bowie knives are period, but not to be worn in combat. Contact 1st Sergeant regarding styles. No pistols are to be worn or used. |

When uniforms are to be worn: |
|
|
|
1) Battle uniforms may consist of mixed items of the Semi and Fatigue uniforms. White cotton trousers may be worn with NCO approval. See the NCO's before each battle for further clarification. No kilts.
2) Full dress may only be worn on parade, at special ceremonies, at balls, or when ordered by the regimental commander.
3) Camp uniforms may consist of either Semi or Fatigue uniforms. Coats, when worn, must have the top button buttoned. Vests, civilian or military, must be worn when coats are not worn. Exceptions can be made, but during the Civil War suspenders were regarded as "underwear", and not to be shown around ladies or officers. Camp and civilian hats in a period style may be worn. |
