Possession
chapter 6
by Kurama

Puu flew among the clouds in ease, joyful and carefree. It spotted another prey, but this time, it was not a bird. Why would a bird want to fly so high up where the air was thin? Puu focused on the weird-flying object. It was a girl. A girl in a pink kimono on an oar.
Puu gave a deafening screech and gave chase.
Botan's brows furrowed in concentration and contacted Koenma while avoiding Puu's swipes. She could feel perspiration form on the back of her neck and dripping down to the cottony edge of her kimono while she pinpointed Puu's location. Puu's wing struck out and hit Botan on the neck. Botan's spirit had came out in time, and her shell dropped to earth while she, on her ever-loyal oar, planted a bug on Puu's body. Puu fell for it and swooped down to catch her shell.
Koenma showed Shiori Puu's location and told her it was probably heading to Yuusuke's hideout.
"Sumimasen," Shiori muttered as she snatched the beeping indicator from Koenma's hand and ran out, hoping to reach the hideout before her son did.
Koenma went after her.
Shizuru entered the warehouse coolly, and let her eyes wander. She saw a sleeping couple and smiled. "There you are," she thought. She tiptoed quietly over to Yuusuke and Keiko, and yanked Keiko out of his arms. Yuusuke and Keiko were immediately awakened. Shizuru slid a dagger out of her ankle boots and pulled painfully at Keiko's hair, forcing her to expose her throat to the sharp dagger.
Yuusuke watched on, not knowing what to do. "Let her go!" was all he could say.
Shizuru shook her head and teased him by going "tsk tsk". She pressed the dagger harder against Keiko's throat till a thin line of red was seen. Keiko's tears fell uncontrollably once more, and struggled, but Shizuru was too strong.
"This," Shizuru licked Keiko's cheek lightly with the tip of her tongue, and drove her dagger into Keiko's thigh, "is for Yukina." Keiko screamed out as pain came to her. Yuusuke shouted hoarsely for Shizuru to stop and rushed towards her, but Shizuru was retreating just as quickly. With a swift action, she ended Keiko's pain by slitting her throat. "And this," Shizuru added, "is for my brother, Yuusuke. I want you to know how painful it is to lose a loved one. We're quits now."
She pushed the almost unconscious Keiko to Yuusuke and exited in swinging steps. Yuusuke howled as if he were the one in pain as he tried as hard as he could to stop Keiko's blood from flowing out onto the ground. He could not. He howled again, like a wolf, howling for his injustice that he suffered. His only possession he wanted was gone. His bloodshot eyes glared at Shizuru's shadow, and rushed out to strike her. Shizuru ducked and punched him in the abdomen. She gave him a 'you-won't-win' look and kicked him in the leg, immediately disjointing it. Yuusuke gritted his teeth in pain as he struck back, trying to put all his years of experience into use, but without his Reiki, he had a terrible disadvantage.
Shiori panted and puffed as she reached the entrance of the warehouse, just in time to see Shizuru and Yuusuke fighting. She threw the indicator away and ran over to Keiko. "Oh my god..." she whispered as she did a little prayer. A large black creature swooped in, it claws covered with blood as it dropped Botan's shell on the ground. Shiori looked at it in awe as the large dragon-like creature protected its master. Shizuru knew she could not defeat it and broke into a run. Puu gave chase on Yuusuke's command. As Shizuru ran, she shouted, "Kill Yuusuke! That way, this monster will die too!"
Shiori confirmed that this was Yuusuke she was seeing. He was the one who caused her son to be so seriously wounded. She let rage and her motherly instincts take over and picked up the dagger from Keiko's side, ignoring the pool of blood. She charged towards Yuusuke and drove the dagger as deep within his body as she could. Yuusuke was taken by surprise. Shizuru was dead and shredded to many slices by Puu. Puu felt the pain Yuusuke felt and stumbled back to its master. Shioru pulled out the dagger, resolving to kill him. She was going to drive her dagger into his heart this time when a sharp beak drove into hers. It was Puu.
Kurama had arrived, but by then, there's was not a single living thing in the warehouse now.
He looked at Shiori's unmoving body in shock. Everyone was gone. He was the only one left. Yuusuke had died first when he fought the youkai. Hiei and Kuwabara were gone too. Now even his closest kin was gone. He did not want to take a second look. He ran, as far away from their tomb as possible.

Epilogue

Kurama sat on the top of the building, huddling in a corner far from the edge. Everyone was gone and left him all alone. What did they live for? Why did Yuusuke want to kill them? Kurama asked himself all those questions, for there must be a reason. No one can be evil just for the sake of it. There must be a reason behind it.
But what?
Yuusuke was not possessed, from the deep brown eyes he gazed into when they fought. He had wanted something, to possess something. Everyone had something they want to possess. Their loved ones, their treasures, their lives...
There was no way to find out what Yuusuke wanted anymore.
Now that everyone was dead, the people pinpointed Kurama as the murderer.
Evidence.
Who needs evidence when there's a handy suspect spotted running from the scene of crime? Kurama smiled bitterly to himself.
Maybe joining the others in Reikai could be a good idea.
