One day Yusuke ditches school and finds a kid playing ball by the street. The kid loses his ball downthe street and Yusuke hands it to him and tells him to scram. Then before he can figure out what hapend the boy is going down the street after his ball again and is about to get hit by... a car! Well despite all Yusuke's stubborness he actualy does something right for a change and knoks the kid out of the way and he dies....
Here's where Botan (the 'Grim Reaper') comes in. (Move your mouse over Kayko on the right to get a picture of Botan.) She tell Yusuke that because of all his 'stubborness' they didn't expect him to die and they were going to give him a second chance. Yusuke of couse thinks "Why bother, no one really cares I'm gone...." But after a while of looking at how much they really do care he decides to take the challange....
