Aaron Hieatt - Henry County Local, December 19, 1919

Mr. Aaron Hieatt Dead - Noble Soul!

The community was painfully shocked on last Tuesday afternoon when the sad news came that Mr. Aaron Hieatt had suddenly passed away at his home near town. Mr. Hieatt had been in Smithfield attending to some business, leaving for home about 4 o'clock, and on doing up his evening chores he was suddenly stricken with a hemorrhage, caused from a ruptured blood vessel, and before medical aid could be summoned he breathed his last at 15 minutes to 5 o'clock. Mr. Hieatt had been failing in health for sometime, but lately had been feeling better. He was too well known in this neighborhood to need any comments from the writer. However, we will say no man was ever held higher in the esteem of the community than this high toned Christian gentleman.

Mr. Hieatt was born in Franklin County, Ky., February 28,1849, his father and mother being James and Frances Hieatt. When quite a young man he united with the Baptist church, and since then he has lived a consistent and faithful member, always ready to do his part and even more.

In 1885 he was united in marriage at the Smithfield Baptist church to Miss Annie McAllister, and he reared a family of 9 children, all living with the exception of one son, Aaron Carl who fave his young life in France just a year ago in the military services of our country. Mr. Hieatt leaves a devoted wife, besides his loving children and two brothers. One of the latter is Mr. W.T. Hieatt, whom he was in business with for many years. Between them there was such a bond of sympathy that the pleasant memory will always remain with those who are left.

The children that are left to mourn are Chester M., Ira, Jewel, Richard and Virgil: Mesdames Lewis Brown and Frank Caplinger and Miss Frances Elizabeth Hieatt.

The funeral was preached at the Baptist church on Thursday morning, December 4 by Rev. E.R. Osborne, a former pastor, after which the remains were laid to rest in Smithfield cemetery under many beautiful flowers that loving hands and sorrowful hearts had brought.

The family have the heartfelt sympathy of their many friends. May they find comfort in the thought that husband and father is at rest, "safe in the arms of Jesus".

"To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die."

Card of Thanks.

Though crushed and humbled befor God by the death of our dear husband and father, Mr. Aaron Hieatt, we are impelled to express our warmest gratitude to all who came to us with helpful hands and sympathetic hearts in the dark hours. For handsome floral offerings, we are also fully appreciative.
