At the end of this summer (2001), Ian and I realized that we needed to take a vacation before our 'we didn't do a damn thing' end of summer depression set it. So we drove an hour away to the small beautiful town of Thurmont, MD. In Thurmont we visited the Catoctin Mountains, Swallow Falls State Park, Taco Bell/ KFC food combo store, and a little orchard where we bought apple butter and pear butter. Since Thurmont had no hotels, we had to stay at a Sleep Inn in Frederick 15 minutes away. These are the pictures from our adventure:

To the left, you will see Ian and I taking a picture of ourselves while hiking in the Catoctin Mountians. We hiked all the way up a mountain to Chimney Rock- what a climb! The picture on the right was taken in Walkersville at the Walkersville Railroad Station. We actually rode on this train through cornfields and over rivers. Walkersville is a little town halfway between Frederick and Thurmont.

This is Chimney Rock located in the Catoctin Mountains. The large rocks form a structure that resembles a chimney, hence the name Chimney Rock. The view from these large rocks is spectacular.

This is me walking in a very cold stream near Swallow Falls State Park. It's so cold that I had to rest on a rock every minute before my feet went numb.
