Eastemnet: The part of Rohan
located east of the Entwash. Eastfold: An area of Rohan that was bounded by the Entwash, the Mering Stream , the Snowbourn and the Ered Nimrais. Entwash Vale: The valley of the lower half of the river Entwash. The Mouths of Entwash were part of this green and swampy area. Fenmarch: The marshy land along the Mering Stream. Firienfeld: Meaning 'mountain-field' in Rohirric. The meadow of Dunharrow. Folde: Located near Edoras, this area was the homeland of the royal family of Rohan. Gap of Rohan: Area in Rohan, located between the Ered Nimrais and the Misty Mountains. Harrowdale: Valley, located above Edoras. During the War of the Ring the Muster of Rohan was held here. Horse-country: Name used by the Orcs for Rohan. Helm's Deep: Defensive centre of the Westfold located below the Thrihyrne, this gorge winded into the Ered Nimrais. Helm's Deep, and everything else in the area, was named after King Helm, famous for defending it in TA 2758-2759. The Cavern's of Helm's Deep were found in it. The Deeping-stream flowed out of Helm's Deep and the Deeping Wall was built across its entrance. It was the most commonly used name to refer to the entire system of fortifications in the area, including the Hornburg fortress. Mark, The: See Rohan. |
Riddermark of Rohan: See Rohan. Rohan: Meaning 'horse-land' in Sindarin. The Kingdom of the Rohirrim. The country was bounded by the rivers Anduin, Isen, Limlight and Mering Stream, the White Mountains and the Misty Mountains, the Fangorn Forest and the Mouths of Entwash. In earlier days it was known as Calenardhon, a province of Gondor. But in TA 2510 it was given to the �oth�od by Cirion, Steward of Gondor, for their help in the Battle of the Fields of Celebrant and their swearing to the Oath of Eorl. The Rohirrim used their green plains for farming and raising horses. They restored the old fortresses and refuges in the Ered Nimrais, including Dunharrow and Helm's Deep. The capital of Rohan was Edoras, built by the first Kings below Dunharrow. However, most of the Rohirrim kept dwelling in small villages or on farms. The names the Rohirrim used themselves for their country were The Mark, The Mark of the Riders and Riddermark (of Rohan). Rohan was the name the people of Gondor used for the country. It was called Horse-country by the Orcs. Westemnet: The part of Rohan located west of the Entwash. Westfold: An area of Rohan that was located along the Ered Nimrais from the river Isen to the western boundary of the Folde. Helm's Deep was the defensive centre of the area. The master of the Westfold lived in the Hornburg. Westfold Vale: Valley in the Westfold of Rohan. The Deeping-stream ran through it. Wold of Rohan: The grassy upland plain of north-eastern Rohan located between the rivers Anduin and Entwash Also known as The Wold. |

A small forest of black trees. Entwood: Name given to Fangorn Forest by the Rohirrim. Firien Wood: Also known as Firienwood. This was an oak-wood at the foot of the Ered Nimrais , on the border between Rohan and Gondor. |
Fangorn Forest: The eastern remnant of the great forest that had once covered all of Eriador and extended into Beleriand. Located east of the southern end of the Misty Mountains, watered by the Entwash and the Limlight. Home of the Ents at the time of The War of the Ring. It was named after the guardian of the forest, Fangorn the Ent, the oldest of his kind living there. Also called Entwood, Fangorn and Forest of Fangorn. |

Adorn: Sprung from the Ered Nimrais, flowing west, until joining the
Isen. Anduin: Meaning 'great-river' in Sindarin. Flowing about 1500 miles from its far northern sources to its delta in the Bay of Belfalas, the Anduin was the greatest river of north-western Middle-earth. Much of Rohan was drained by the Anduin and its main tributaries, being the Celebrant, Entwash, Erui, Gladden, Limlight, Morgulduin, Poros and Sirith. Deeping-stream: Originating in Helm's Deep, it flowed around the Hornrock, over Helm's Dike and through the Deeping-coomb into Westfold Vale. Entwash: Originating in Fangorn Forest, this river flowed through Rohan to the Anduin. It joined the Anduin in a large marshy delta, known as the Mouths of Entwash. Great River: See the Anduin. |
Isen: Meaning 'iron' in Rohirric. The Isen flowed south from Nan Curun�r, through the Gap of Rohan
and from there west to the Sea. It was Rohan's western boundary, and was defended against the Dunlendings.
It appears not to have been bridged, but it was crossed via the Fords of Isen. Limlight: Like the Entwash, this river had its source in Fangorn Forest and from there flowed into the Anduin. It formed the northern boundary of Rohan. Mering Stream: This stream had its source in the Ered Nimrais. From there it flowed through the Firien Wood and into the Mouths of Entwash. It marked the boundary between Rohan and Gondor. Snowbourn: This river flowed from Dunharrow to Edoras and then east until joining the Entwash. |

Aglarond: Meaning 'glittering caves' in Sindarin. Although used as storage-place by the Rohirrim, the caverns of
Helm's Deep were already used by N�menoreans. After the War of the Ring, Gimli, who had defended them fiercely, became Lord of
the Glittering Caves, to where some Dwarves of Erebor went. Barrowfield: Burial place for the Kings of the Mark just outside Edoras. On the West side there were the Kings of the First Line, on the East side, the Kings of the Second Line. Here grew the rare flower Simbelmyn�. Caverns of Helm's Deep: See the Aglarond. Crossings of Isen: See the Fords of Isen . Dark Door: Located at the foot of the Dwimorberg, this was the north entrance to the Paths of the Dead. Also known as The Door, The Forbidden Door and The Gate of the Dead. Death Down: Large mound of stones over a deep pit, made by the Huorns, where in lay the Orcs who were killed in the Battle of the Hornburg. Deeping-coomb: Through here the Deeping-stream flowed. On its side there was Helm's Dike near the Hornrock. Deeping Wall: The wall built across Helm's Gate which guarded the entrance to Helm's Deep. It was twenty feet high and broad enough for four men to walk side-by-side on it's top. The Wall had only one flaw: in it's base there was a rahter sizeable culvert through which the Deeping-stream flowed. Door, The: See the Dark Door. East Wall: Great cliff of the Emyn Muil, which marked the eastern border of Rohan. |
Entwade: The fords of the Entwash,
located north-east from Edoras. Forbidden Door: See the Dark Door. Fords of Isen: The fords across the Isen were located in western Rohan and formed the chief entrance into the country from the west. A battle between King Helm and Wulf was fought here and during the WR the Rohirrim and the forces of Saruman fought two battles here. Gate of the Dead: See the Dark Door. Glittering Caves: See the Aglarond. Great West Road: See the West Road. Helm's Dike: A trench and rampart built along the side of the Deeping-coomb closest to the Hornburg. Helm's Gate: The entrance to Helm's Deep. The Deeping Wall was built across it. Hornrock: A black spur which jutted out from the northern cliff of Helm's Deep. On it was built the Hornburg. North-way: See the West Road. Paths of the Dead: A road under the Ered Nimrais which led from the Dark Door to the source of the Morthond near Erech. The only ones allowed on the Paths were the Dead themselves, who dwelded there, and the heir of Isildur. Stair of the Hold: A steep switchback road which led from Edoras to Dunharrow. It was virtually impossible for enemies to take the Stair (and Dunharrow) because of the way it was built. West Road: The road that lead from Edoras to Minas Tirith. It was also known as the North-way and the Great West Road. |

Edoras: Meaning 'the courts' in Rohirric. This was the Capital of Rohan. It was built by Eorl and Brego on the
Snowbourn at the foot of the Ered Nimrais. It contained
Meduseld. Everholt: > A place in the Firien Wood. |

Dunharrow: Is both the fortress and refuge of Dunharrow. It was build by men related to the Dunlendings. The Rohirrim gained control after they

Hornburg: Fortress, called the Hornburg because of if a horn was sounded in its tower, it echoed far in the depths of Helm's Deep.
Once defended it could not be taken by an enemy, or so it was said. In peace, it was used as a dwelling for the master of the Westfold. Meduseld: Built by King Brego (TA 2569) in Edoras, this was the palace of the Kings of Rohan. It was also known as the Golden Hall, because of its roof that was made of gold. |
