| About the Webmaster... | |||||||||||||||
| The youngest of four boys Rob Young grew up moving from one AirForce base to another. Rob was born on Barksdale AFB and after spending his early years in Japan his family was moved to Hickam AFB for the first time in 1966. Playing in the sands of Waikiki and riding styrofoam surfboards at Bellows left this impressionable young boy with many vivid memories. After being stationed stateside at Pease AFB New Hampshire in the late sixties and complaining to his Parents "When are we going to move back to Hawaii" the Young's returned to Hickam in 1969. | |||||||||||||||
| With the back drop of Diamond Head and the turbulent protest of the Vietnam war, Rob and his brothers experienced their own version of a "Hawaiian Wonder Years". From surfing the waves off of Fort DeRussy and walking past the surgar cane fields of Ewa Beach to attending local schools and participating in organized sports; it would be a time of fast friendships and budding young romance that seemed to fade as quickly as it came. | |||||||||||||||
| Rob and his brothers would also witness the historical events that only a Hickam Airforce brat could have. President Richard Nixon's arrival to greet the Apollo 13 Astronauts and the emotional return of the POW's from Vietnam. The Young family remembers their two tours at Hickam with the fondest of memories and consider themselves fortunate to have had the experience. | |||||||||||||||
| In December of 1973 Rob's father's assignment ended and the Young's boarded a Plane at Honolulu International Airport to depart for the mainland. | |||||||||||||||
| Rob and his family now live in Florida. He works as a System Engineer for a Hawaiian owned telemedicine company that does contract work for the Department of Defense. He has made frequent trips back to Hawaii and Hickam and saw a need to establish a site for other Hickam Airforce brats. It is for the sacrifices made by the Parents and Children of all the armed services both past and present that this site is dedicated. | |||||||||||||||
