The Collinson Auction

We have both been living in the same apartment, so we think it is only fair to offer our stuff to both of you.  Please let us know what you are interested in, and basically we will do first e-mail, first serve

All of the things below have been purchased within the last year.  We had to buy everything new when we arrived.  If there is no indication of when something was purchased, assume it was in August 2004.  For most of these things we have held onto receipts and will be able to leave them with you should they be needed.

The Goods

Couch

This is a two seat, fake leather, cream coloured couch.  End to end it is about one and a half meters.  It is quite comfortable, except possibly in the heat of the summer when your skin sticks a little.SOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLDSOLD

¥15000

Pillows (Cushions)

There are two matching couch cushions, 40 x 40 cm.  They are stuffed with cotton (or whatever regular pillow stuffing is).  Both have cases as well.

Table

This table is 90 cm x 60 cm.  It is about 35 cm off the ground, so it is about level with the couch seats.  We have found it good to eat at while watching TV, also for working on the computer.  The blue table cloth will be included with the table, but it is slightly stained (not really noticeable).

¥3000

Bed

Actually it is just a mattress on the floor, but man is it better than a futon.  The mattress is a twin size, and I have found it to be quite comfortable.  Included with the mattress will be a fitted sheet (used, but washed).  The mattress measures 196 cm x 140 cm x 18 cm.

¥20000

Pillows (Bed)

These are the closest things we could find to proper sleeping pillows.  Everything here is filled with beans, or straw.  These are proper "cotton" stuffed pillows, but there center is stitched in, which is surprisingly comfortable (see the picture).  Each pillow has a pillow case.  There are three in total.  The pillows are standard size, 55 cm x 35 cm.

each

2 Free with Bed

TV / VCR

This is a 13" (about 35 cm) TV with a built in VCR.  There is one set of AV inputs on the front so that a DVD player or satellite may be hooked up to it.  Both TV and VCR are fully operational by remote.

¥15000

Satellite

The satellite is a Perfect Choice satellite.  We have used if for NBA games, but you can also get many American stations as well as English movies.  The dish is attached to the balcony, but can very easily be moved.  There is a monthly service fee of only ¥400, then you pay for the channels you wish to watch.

Phone

This is just the cheapest phone we could find.  It works fine, has redial, but not much more.  Also, it is no good to you unless you buy a...

Phone Line

In Japan you have to own your phone number.  You can be a third generation ALT owner of this phone number.  All that needs to be done is have some paper work signed, and the number is registered in your name.  Great investment, because it can not depreciate.  This is the price we bought it for, and you can sell it back for the same.

¥20000

for both phone and the line

Shower

This will not be needed at Kannonji, but at the other apartment there is most likely no shower.  This is everything you need to make a shower.  Basically it is a pump that you place in the heated water of the ofuro (bathtub), then the water is run through a shower head.  I have all of the plumbing attachments needed, and it is very easy to assemble.  The second picture shows you what we were using before this was purchased.

¥3500

Bikes

This one is a little easier, there are two of us, and two bikes.  One bike is slightly larger then the other, so I guess the fair way to do this would be, if you are interested, tell me how tall you are.  We are 6’ and 5’7”, but we can both ride either.  Both bikes have two locks, one small one attached to the rear wheel, and one bigger lock purchased separately.  There is some wear on the bikes, but they still ride perfectly fine.

Package Deal

You can buy the things below for the individually listed prices, or you can buy it all for one low price.

¥17500

Clothes Lines / Pegs

We have three clothes lines, approximately 70 clothes pegs, a bag for the clothes pegs, a preassembled clothes peg rack (good for socks) and two clamps to hold your futons and blankets over the railing for drying.

¥700

for the works

Bathroom Set

We have purchased a few things to make the bathroom a little more convenient and add a little homely touch.  There are two shelves that are good for holding all of your stuff in the shower room as well as a soap holder, cup, and a toothbrush holder.  Then in the toilet room there is a matching set consisting of a toilet cover, toilet paper cover, and floor mat, as well as a garbage can and a basket of a similar colour.

¥300

Closet Containers

There are two different types of storage containers here.  The first two are three drawer sets, which are good for shorts T-shirts and your "smaller clothing articles".  Each drawer is 54 cm x 37 cm x 17 cm.  The other two are large tubs that have worked well for sweatshirts, pants or other bulky things.  They measure 74 cm x 42 cm x 32 cm.  We had found that due to the moisture in Japan our clothes were actually molding just sitting in the closet, the containers have helped some.

¥1500

for one of each

(all 4 in package deal)

Closet Pole

Believe it or not, there is no where to hang your clothes unless you buy a pole, and try as I might I could not find one cheap.  At KannSOLDonji there is a short pole (79 cm), so this may be served bSOLDest at the other apartment, but then again 79 cm is not long.  We have not found any problem with weight, so you can hang many articles on this pole.  The pole is about 110 cm long.

¥1000

Hangers

Not much to say about hangers, they are pretty standard.  We have about 66 of them, the price to the right will be for half, so that you both may have some.

(all in package deal)

Curtains

The curtains that are for sale are the white curtains.  The other are owned by Hibiki.  The white curtains are thin, and allow some light to come through, but give you some privacy from tSOLDhe old lady who stares in our apartment all the time.  There are two sets for the two sliding doors (full length), and one for the front window (covers the window, does not go to the floor, as seen in the second picture).

¥2000

Large Clock

This is a 25cm diameter, battery run wall clock.  Not much else to say about it.  It is not necessary to have, but is a nice touch.  We have not had to change the battery at all.

Free with curtains

Vacuum

A must with tatami floors.  Tatami floors are known to get bugs, and they bite!  The vacuum is an easy way to eliminate this problem.  The vacuum is built for a Japanese person, so it is a little short, but other than that it works really well.  There is a small attachment for doing corners as well as the standard head.

¥6000

Big Outdoor Garbage Can

This is not a necessity, but there are many crows around (and they grow them huge here) that love to eat the garbage, so if there is a bag on the balcony they may get into it.  This is large enough to easily hold a week's worth of trash.  The two lids are there so that if you would like to divide the recycling as well you can, but inside is one compartment.  Depending on how you put in the bag(s) you can use it for one or two.

¥700

Kitchen Garbage Can

This garbage can is the size of a standard shopping bag, and has a foot peddle to open it.  There is not much else I can say about a garbage can.

¥200

Kitchen Stand

This was purchased to hold the modem, but worked out well as a stand for the toaster oven as well.  We had the toaster oven on the fridge, but it is much easier to see inside it now. The total dimensions of the stand are 87 cm x 44 cm x 27 cm and the three shelves are equally spaced.  This is not top quality wood by any means, and there is a small slit cut into the back where I have put the phone lines through, but it is sturdy none the less.

¥500

Bathroom Scale

This was purchased in January of 2005.  It reads in kg, not in lb, and goes up to 120 kg (about 265 lb).  It will prove very useful when weighing luggage or packages.

¥1000

Kitchen Utensils etc

This is a collection of kitchen stuff that we bought in August.  I will try to list it all, but the best bet is to look at the picture.  There are:  2 big soup  bowls, 1 potatoe masher, 2 small frying pans, 1 large frying pan, 2 small gratin dishes, 2 large cutting boards, 1 bag holder, 1 can opener, 1 grader, 1 slicer, 1 strainer, 1 peeler, a 1.5L jug, 1 spatula, 1 ladle, 1 spaghetti scoop, 1 bowl/strainer set, 4 measuring spoons, 1 sharp knife, 1 pair of scissors, 1 measuring cup, 1 microwave cover, 1 breading dish, 8 hooks for hanging kitchen towels, 6 kitchen towels, 1 apron, 3 kitchen sponges, 4 pairs of chopsticks, 4 pairs of cooking chopsticks, 1 lettuce spinner and 6 magnets (I realized I had forgotten the last few items after I had taken the picture, so they are not shown).

¥3000

Kitchen Storage Containers

These are just a bunch of storage containers we have bought for the kitchen, most of them are seen in the picture.

Stool

The kitchen cupboards are really high, I am 180 cm tall but I cannot properly see what is on the top shelves. This stool is about 18 cm high, and has a standing area of about 32 cm x 25 cm.  The only foreseeable problem is that it slides a little on the kitchen floor, so you need to use a little caution.

Cushions

There are 2 flat cushions (43 cm x 43 cm) meant to use either as chair covers, or as padding for your butt if you sit on the floor.  They are fairly thin, but provide some comfort.  I have a third one that I keep, and it will remain, on my chair at school, and it has made working much more comfortable.

¥200

for both

Kettle

This is a 2L kettle, the outside of it is stained from the open flames of the gas stove, but it still boils water just fine.

¥400

Alarm Clock

The day of the week is in Japanese, but everything else is in English.  It has a snooze function and the display is back-lit by pushing the silver button on top.  The alarm itself is quite loud, making sure you do not miss it.

¥700

Tools

Over the first few months I found that I needed a few tools here and there.  These are not top notch tools by any means, but they do the job.  Included here are:  1 screwdriver with interchangeable heads, 3 extension cords, a 5m tape measure, 1 hammer, a wipe board with marker and any random hooks or other attachment things that I have picked up.

¥500

Flower Pots

There are two of each of both of the flower pots shown.  Each pot is about 11 cm high, and 11 cm in diameter.  All four have small dishes at the bottom to collect any excess water.

¥200

for all four
