John Henry Day May Have Been a Little Light on the Work Aspect

More News on the JH Day Lack of Work Scandal

by Molly Wortham
There are rumors circulating that not that much work got done at the latest JH day festival weekend. Word on the street is that mostly people partied, danced, laughed, went swimming, and hung out, and perhaps that a couple windows were fixed up for winter, maybe there was some weeding or something, and like one small truckload was taken to the dump, hardly the kind of festival that should be named after a folk hero who worked himself to death. HIA is unable to confirm or deny these rumors.
In yet another layer of a scandal that continues to unfold, a jh day elf who formerly visited Hermosa lambasted the entire faction of workers present at this years gathering. His statement laid out his bitter disappointment, righteous indignation, and continued with personal attacks and sarcastic comments.         When it became obvious what a dinky amount of work was going to go onI headed elsewhere, maybe North Dakota, where people know how to work. What these South Dakotans call work these days is the real scandal here. Just for the record, while the following are considered work in some aspect, they do not really qualify as jh day quality: weeding, mixing drinks, tinkering on small engines, cleaning guns, repairing yard art, washing the dishes. Furthermore; dancing the night away, shooting stuff with guns, dressing like hillbillies and getting your picture taken, and getting massages are activities that cannot even be loosely interpreted as work. Jeez , I hope no one broke a nail.      The elf continued to rant,( this statement was edited for language and the vicious tone of the personal attacks) I really thought  this was about the work. In light of all the crap I heard last year, all the bragging about working so hard, Id have to say this years effort was truly pathetic. Its bullshit. John Henry is rolling in his grave.       *hia encourages all jh day attendees to respond, if they can be bothered.
As one can see above, some of the only "work" done over "Labor" Day weekend involved stringing festive lights about the American Legion Hall to help turn it into a disco dance party worthy of Miss Europa, herself!
