(Cambridge) Renee Roxanne Abeln-Taylor has today released a statement to the press, questioning the HIA Newsletter recently installed Editor-in-Chief, Al Fish. Abeln-Taylor has accused Fish of deliberately pandering to the lowest common denominator in order to achieve a higher readership.
"Its not like Im a prude or anything," Abeln-Taylor states, "but it seems to me that since Al, well-known as a man, has taken over the Editorship of the newsletter, suddenly there is an extremely charged sexual atmosphere to the writing." She points out current articles, such as Plush Toy Perversions. "Even the Haiku page, dedicated to a form of poetry that is in its very nature restrained and dignified, is riddled with words such as . . . well, frankly I dislike repeating them. But they are penis, hymen, pelvis, semen, shit, goddamn, jizz, whore. " When confronted by the fact that she herself has written 3 haikus containing offending language, she retorted. "Well how else am I gonna get published?
"I have also noticed the fact that now the site is simply riddled with erotic images. And not one of them is me!! What, have I suddenly become chopped liver??" She refers to the sites most recent aquisions, a photo-documentary of a corn cob fest and a travellogue for Woonsocket, South Dakota - both of which feature Abeln-Taylors colleague Catherine J. Beem in highly suggestive poses.
When questioned about her reaction to the sensual images, Abeln-Taylor replies, "What Catherine chooses to do with her free time is none of my business, and, frankly Ill admit that her wanton frolicking with Mr Fish has resulted in images which will no doubt aid the publicity of our latest event in Hermosa, The Miss Europa Disco Dancer party. And everyone knows that Woonsocket has long been a bastion of sheer animal lust." When the subject of Fishs own erotic poses is raised, there is a pause. "Well. Muffin I mean, Mr. Fish is his own man and he can do with his body what he likes. Which obviously has nothing to do with me."
The images of the corn cob fest also feature Abeln-Taylors sister, Molly Wortham. When this is brought out in the open, Abeln-Taylor retorts, "Obviously Molly and Mr Fish have long been associates, and I have learned by now to . . . deal . . . with the consequences of that relationship. There is no jealousy there." Somehow, none of us are convinced.
"It just seems to me that Muffin, . . .Mr Fish, has filled his webpages with sexual images of friends and relatives of mine along with himself! and has made absolutely no attempt to do the same with me. I find this offensive and I am hoping that at some point this imbalance will be addressed. I will be giving Mr Fish an opportunity at the end of August, at the Miss Europa Disco Dancer party, and I hope he will rise to the challenge."
