| G-Rated Reverie Becomes R-Rated Reality! |
Renee Abeln-Taylor is livin’ the dream in England - her childhood dream that is! Think back to those heady, fun-filled 70’s. It was a simpler time, where mirrored-sunglasses were the height of cool. David Soul made us swoon to the bittersweet melody of ‘Silver Lady’. And TV heart-throbs were natural, wholesome men livin’ free in harmony and majesty! Imagine you’re a shy, be-spectacled young girl of seven, on the cusp of pre-teen angst, with a deep-seated love of animals and all things furry. On to the screen and into your life steps a man, a man with a bear. A bearded man with a bear and a penchant for calico and the ability to make friends with animals of all species (like puma cubs! oooo they’re so CUTE!) This bearded naturalist makes you feel all funny, and Rich Little hasn’t answered ANY of your letters! And suddenly your world will never be the same.. . . So began the dawn of Renee’s romantic awakening. And after nine years in England, the fantasy has become fact. She has finally found her own Grizzly Adams. Abeln-Taylor’s eyes sparkle with child-like glee as she describes her live-in lover, Jon Grandin (31, from Sudbury, Leo sun sign) “Admittedly he’s English and not American. And he doesn’t have bear, or make friends easily with all animals. ‘Cause even though he has a dog, he doesn’t really like cats very much and I once saw him kill a wasp. And he doesn’t live in a forest or have a Native American blood-brother called ‘Nakuma’ or know a grizzled old prospector. And as far as I know he’s not on the run from a crime he was accused of but didn’t commit . . . although he tends to hide his face every time we walk past a Dr Schols. And as far as I know he hasn’t developed a cocaine habit. But he does REALLY LIKE beer. Anyway, aside from that he’s just LIKE Grizzly Adams!!” So how does this modern day mountain man (who lives on the flats of East Anglia) feel about epitomising Abeln-Taylor’s object of youthful romantic affection? Grandin responds, ‘Personally, I’ve always seen myself as more of a hairy Homer Simpson, but I’m not complaining!’ If you would like to further understand the appeal of Grizzly Adams, visit www.grizzlyadams.net/
