| State of Alaska Office of the Governor Juneau May 12, 2003 Mr. Joe Ewing Dear Joe, It is an important aspect of our American lives to excercise the freedoms of our liberty. Pursuing a dream is how a person makes it into a reality. You have set a unique, particular desire, and should be commended for striving to make a reality of it. Stepping beyond the boundaries of personal comfort in order to uplift, unite, and encourage is a testimony to the spirit of our nation. Since you are seeking a national holiday the state would not have the authority to declare such a day. A national holiday would have to be established by the congress of the United States after extensive public debate. Best of luck, and good success for your future endeavors. Sincerely yours, Frank H. Murkowski Governor |
