A little Diamond R Farms History
During the early 1920's Louis Rampone bought some land on Benvoulin Road, where the home farm now stands. The farm first started out as a tobacco farm, which was successfully grown here prior to 1920. The British North American Tobacco Company fell on some poor times and this coupled with an early frost marked an end of the tobacco era in Kelowna.
During the 1930's and 1940's many different crops were grown that were later sold to local packinghouses. This time also saw the introduction of several cows on the farm from which butter was made and sold to local stores.
With the addition of "automatic" milkers the 1950's saw a growth in the dairy part of the farm operation. During this time the vegetable fields were used mostly to grow the grass and hay for cattle feed.
Ray and Linda Rampone use half of the farm for Don o Ray Vegetables and the other half is used for Diamond R Farms ( the horse stable ). All the old building have been renovated to meet the new demands. The old tobacco barn is a wonderful stable with 17 large stalls, heated lounge, private lockers and a huge hay loft.
We also have Jack Russell Terriors and Minature Donkeys !
