You Know I Don’t Like Lima Beans

©2003 Harvey H. Warwick III

I’m not all that persnickety;
I’ve learned to like a lot of foods.
Although I’m not omnivorous
I eat whatever suits my moods.
Though maybe when I was a kid
There weren’t a lot of foods I ate,
Now that I’m an adult, I like
Variety upon my plate.
Some things, though, do not change with time;
Some tastes I never will acquire.
There’s one food, in particular
That’s too repulsive to desire.
You know I don’t like lima beans;
I just cannot abide their taste.
Don’t even put them on my plate.
To give them to me is a waste.
Asparagus I’ll gladly eat
So long as they are fresh, not canned,
But lima beans are evil greens;
I really think they should be banned.
No butter, salt or seasoning
Can hide their bitter, nasty taste.
The notion that they’re “good for you”
Is one I never have embraced.
A food cannot be good for you
If it’s one that you can’t keep down,
And rather than eat lima beans
I think that I would sooner drown.
