Introduction To My Work

©2003 Harvey H. Warwick III

There’s no boring fluff
In my poetry stuff
No rambles on rainbows or flowers or sunsets
Nor much melancholy
I rather like jolly
Hilarious humor and alliteration.
Yes, I prefer wacky
And find the rest tacky:
You’ll find here few flowers or rainbows or sunsets
And no mushy love songs
For stuff like that belongs
In tunes that they play on a radio station.
Unless my creation
Has alliteration
And I find that rainbows are what goes along with
The verse that I’m writing
And makes it exciting
And flowers empower the scheme of the rhyme
And unless the meter
Sounds a lot neater
Singing of spring days like some legendary myth
I won’t do frilly verse
But rather like it terse
Though I get long-winded some of the time.
You’ll find no sunsets
Unless that word lets
Me introduce something that’s quite unexpected
For I like humor:
I’m a consumer
Of every pun that I have ever detected.
I can be serious
If I’m delirious
With pain and frustration, sorrow and shame
But it’s a bummer
To spend my whole summer
Rehashing and thrashing it just for the fame
Of writing serious
Work that will weary us
All just to read it, so I think I’ll stick to
The thing I know the best
Which is to write in jest.
