Dream Job

©2003 Harvey H. Warwick III

O give me a job
Where I can just sit
And quietly tend to my work,
Where there is no boss
Who’s grumpy and cross
And acts like an absolute jerk,
And phones never ring
And there is no need
To deal with the public at all;
If I saw an ad
For that kind of job
I’d be sure to give them a call.
If such a job paid
A livable wage
And there was no lengthy commute,
And coworkers there
All did their fair share
And were nice and pleasant, to boot,
And no one ever
Got sent home from work
Because there was nothing to do,
And deadlines never
Were cause for concern
But all were met when you got through,
And they would be closed
On all holidays
And overtime wasn’t required,
And there was a way
To take some time off
And do so without being fired,
Then I would apply
For that kind of work.
It’s something I’ve greatly desired;
That is the dream job
Which I’d love to have
And hope to find ere I’m retired.
