Car Keys

2007 Harvey H. Warwick III

Now where did I put down my car keys?
I had them a moment ago.
Just help me to find them this time, please
Theyre somewhere around here, I know.
I opened the door and walked in here
And set them down somewhere nearby
But just where I put them is not clear;
I almost feel like I could cry.
Ive retraced my footsteps three times now
And havent come up with them yet.
Did someone move them?  I dont see how;
Theyre hiding in plain sight, Ill bet.
Ive searched both my front and back pockets
And on the big rug by the wall
Beneath the electrical sockets
But just cannot find them at all!
Ive thought of the places I might miss
Like drawers, even under a book;
Wherever I left them, I know this:
Theyll be in the last place I look.
My front door keys on the same key ring,
My mailbox keys on it as well.
Without them, I cant do anything,
But where they are, I cannot tell.
Now as I turn, I hear a jingle,
And hearing that jingle, I freeze.
Excitement is starting to tingle:
I finally found my car keys.
Its seldom I use my shirt pocket
But thats where they were all along.
I go out the door now, and lock it;
My keys are back where they belong.
