If people consider someone to be great
At sculpting or painting, or if he’ll create
Some new thing that never before has been done
In quite the same way, if he made the first one,
Then all of the subsequent works that he makes
No matter how little or much time it takes
Though it’s just some never-used, discarded part
They’ll matte it and frame it and say, “Oh, that’s art.”
If critics deplore it, you’ve got to hand it
To them, they’ll say, “You just don’t understand it.
This artist’s a genius, on top of his game
(Or her). We’ve not seen anything quite the same.”
Thus, on the coattails of work that’s outstanding
Many an artist will find himself landing
(Or herself) amongst people everyone knows.
That’s how the cult of celebrity grows.
