Information and Communication Technology in Business (BTT1O / BTT2O) Course Outline This course introduces students to information and communication technology in a business environment and builds a foundation of digital literacy skills necessary for success in a technologically driven society. Students will develop word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, presentation software, and website design skills. Throughout the course, there is an emphasis on digital literacy, effective electronic research and communication skills, and current issues related to the impact of information and communication technology.

Fee There is a $5.00 fee for this course. This fee is used to help offset various costs, including but not limited to, the cost of dividers and print credit expenses.

Portfolio Your BTT Portfolio (notebook) is comprised of a 3 ring binder with labeled dividers for each of the following sections:
Each section should include your relevant handouts, notes, assignments, tests, and so on. More sections may be added later. Your portfolio will be marked at various times throughout the year.
Assessment and Evaluation: Marking schemes and rubrics used for evaluation will be organized to include the four achievement categories: · Knowledge and Understanding 20% tests, quizzes, presentations, lab work · Thinking 15% presentations, lab work, projects, assignments · Communication 15% presentations, lab work, projects, assignments · Application 20% presentations, lab work, projects, assignments Ongoing assessment and evaluation will constitute 70% of your final grade. This will include tests, quizzes, presentations, projects, assignments and your portfolio. Toward the end of the course, a Final Evaluation will take place and will constitute 30% of the final grade. This Final Evaluation will include a Major Project and Reference Manual of Information Technology Terminology (15%) and a Final Examination (15%).
Learning Skills Students will be assessed on an ongoing basis in the following areas and will be given a letter grade on the Report Card as follows: E=Excellent; G= Good; S=Satisfactory; N=Needs Improvement. The areas to be assessed are:
Lates & Absences: Due to the hands on nature of this course, being punctual and regular attendance are critical for success. It is the students’ responsibility to catch up on any missed notes or assignments. Notify your teacher in advance of any known absences. Lates and absences will be monitored, and the school’s policy on skips (see Planner) will be adhered to. |
