CLASS OF "51" HHS
I was drafted in January, 1956. I was sent to Fort Dix, New Jersey for basic and advanced school. Graduating first in my class, I was able to chose my assignment. I chose the 25th Division In Hawaii located at Scholfield Barracks. Shirley worked at Queens Hospital in Honolulu and we lived in Waikiki, 1/2 block from the beach. Tough duty, but someone has to do it.
Returning to Springfield, I joined the Illinois Army National Guard and worked full time for the Guard. I enrolled in Officers Training School and graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant. Although we had purchased a new home in Auburn, IL. and had 2 young daughters and a son of the way, I was called to the "Berlin Crisis" and was sent to Ft. Knox, KY for a year of active duty. We returned to Auburn where we had 2 more children. Five in six years!
During my career, I attended many more Officer's schools. By the end of my 35 years of service and as Director of Maintenance for Illionois National Gurard, I retired as a Colonel.
While living in Aubrun, Il., I spent 19 years on the School Board as President 11 of those years. I also was a member of the Auburn Rotary Club for 21 years and was a Phil Harris fellow.
We will be married 50 years August 28th. I have truly been blessed with a wonderful wife, 5 wonderful children and 6 super grandchildren!

We now live in DeBary, FL where we keep busy golfing, traveling, swimming and working in our yard.
I am pretty sure we have attended every class reunion and Ican say each one has been a highlight in my life.
