HIGHLIGHTS OF LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL: After graduation I went to Green Mountain College for 2 years and received my AA degree.  I transferred to SUNY Cortland but left after my junior year to get married.  I had 2 children, divorced 14 years later and returned to college.  I was hired by Homer Central Schools immediately and taught 29 years-teaching 1st grade and then 3rd grade.  I received my Masters Degree in 1978.  I was remarried in 1976 and my husband Bill died in 1994.  We owned a beautiful 150-acre dairy farm in central NY.  In our school district I was our union representative, a negotiator, received the Homer Teachers Association Teacher of the Year Award and was also the Teacher of the Year in 2002.  In retirement I am busy as our school districts retiree representative, work at Disney World (4 years now) at Wide World of Sports from Jan-April, on the Hospice Board, volunteer at our hospitals coffee shop 1 day a week, on the board for the Cortland Alumni Chapter, and am also on a few other school related committees.  My daughter and son-in-law have 2 children (ages 18 and 8) that live close by while my son (a captain with JET Blue) and his wife have 2 children (ages 8 and 10) that live in PA.  I love to travel and have been to Costa Rica, Alaska, the Canadian Rockies, many Caribbean cruises, and am looking forward to a transatlantic cruise from Spain later on this year. I also keep busy with family, reading, scrap booking, and having fun with friends.

MESSAGES TO CLASSMATES: As we say at Disney, Have a Magical Day! especially during your retirement years. Looking forward to seeing everyone in September.   Gail (Terry) Van Patten
