Hunter Hill News

The lack of news has been due to everybody being so busy! Hopefully this summer the news will be able to be kept up, so just e-mail one of us webmasters and we will put news on here! Hunter Hill looks forward to a fun rest of the summer and awaits mounted and unmounted meetings starting again!

Rally!
Hunter Hill had so much fun at rally! The combined test teams came in first and second overall. The teams tied third for horse management! The first place team consisted of Madeline, Emily, Lauren L., and Jenna. Their horse manager was Sarah. The second place team was made up of Rachel, Lauren C., Ashly, and Chloe. Their horse manager was Alison. The dressage team came in fourth overall and got second for horse management. Our dressage team was made of Ali, Phoebe, Kelly, and Kimberly. Beth was their horse manager. Hunter Hill hasn't done this well at rally in a long time! Awesome job to all participants, parents, and volunteers! Way to go!

D Camp!
D Camp was headed up by several of our upper level older Hunter Hill Members. The camp lasted over three days and all of the kids who participated learned horse managements and riding skills! The skills will surely help the members as they go for ratings, and go rallies. Thank you to all who made D Camp a success!

November Mounted Meeting

The weather was beautiful for our second mounted meeting. Perfect for us humans, but I think the horses would have liked it to be a bit cooler. The first hour practiced cantering, jumping position, and jumping over cross poles. Ashly worked on sitting before the jump. Kimberly had to get Danny to canter slower and not fall on the forehand. Madeline is riding Manny, a very cute black fluffy pony. Madeline is a super little rider who kept Manny, the three year old, under control. Caleb worked on trotting with his heals down and posting on the correct diagonal. Caleb is getting better with each lesson and will be cantering in no time. This was the first time for both Michaela and Ralphy to jump. After refusing once, he had no problems going over the poles.

The second hour got to jump a gate and a vertical with a flower box. Danny was super pony that day. Kimberly rode him first hour and Emily rode him the second hour. Bob, the palomino pony, was feeling very spunky and gave Andrea a rodeo ride. By the end of the lesson, he jumped over all the poles wonderfully. Delwyn, the pretty black welsh cob, is getting better in shape. He is sweating less and listening to Kelly better. Rachel and Fancy are looking more like a team every time I see them. We, Emily and I, apologize that we can't remember if Ali A. was there that day. I got to watch Ali A. on Dutch last week for a little bit in their lesson and they are riding so well together.

The third hour Beth, Ali W. and Sarah rode.

Hunter/Jumper Show

There was a big turnout for the show at Pendragon this Saturday. It started a little after 9:00 and didn't end til 6:30. Dana Alexander was the judge. I don't know how she did it judging all those horses and riders. Ribbons were awarded for fifth place to first. Some of the classes they had to split three times. Ashly with Merrylegs placed in three of the huge classes. Ashly started getting a little scared cause people on their big horses kept running her into the wall. Rachel said that happens all the time when you ride a little pony. (Although once Ashly did cut off one of the big horses herself ;-) ). Rachel got a first in one of the classes. I got to see her ride that one and her and Fancy just clicked for that run. Jenna rode Shamus and got two second places. Miceala and Ralphy rode a few classes. It was his first show. What a horse! He just did it, and placed as well! Caleb rode in the two- walk/trot classes. Being such a competitor, he cried when he didn't win a ribbon. We all reminded him that he has been only riding for three months and for him to be just out there on his own is a big accomplishment. Kimberly also did the two - walk/trot classes. She got first in both. Ali Wilaby rode Cosmo, Tracy, and Gracie in all different classes. She placed (if I remember right) every time. Beth didn't ride but was there helping.

Ratings
Dana and her mom, Cindy, were out the next day to do the pony club ratings. Kimberly, Ashly, Miceala, and Caleb were rating for their D-1. Kelly and Emily were rating for their D-1 and D-2. Everything went well.....They all passed.....YEA!!!!.... and we were out of there around 1:30. At the end, we got to talk with Dana and her mom and got to know them a little bit better. Thank you Dana and Cindy!

Unmounted Meeting
Ali W. taught last night's meeting on pony parts, colors, and markings. To learn the parts, Ali and Marge, brought the star of the evening, Rocket. Rocket is Ali W.'s three year old mini palomino horse. Everyone just loved him and he behaved so well while everyone hugged him and pointed out the different Rocket parts. Ali put together a little book of pony parts, color markings and a pony quiz. Ashly said she really enjoyed playing the game of guessing the horse colors. Ali was wonderful and everyone had allot of fun.

Mounted Meeting

Our first mounted meeting for the fall was a lot of fun and everyone got to know each other a little better. The weather was better than expected. Even though Larkspur got two inches that morning, everything was pretty much dried up before we all had to drive out there. We missed Ali W., Beth, and Madeline. They went to the High Prairie Horsey Halloween (can't remember what they really called it). Maybe next year, the whole club can go together. I heard from Chris that the costumes for the horses were very elaborate.

The first hour Ashly, Caleb, Andrea, and Micaela rode. They practiced cantering, trotting over poles, being a jockey, and going around the world. Andrea's, Bob, is the cutest palomino pony with big brown eyes. I just had to go over and pet him. Macaela rode Ralphy, a pretty bay arabian. It's Raphly's first time as a pony club pony and he was wonderful with all the horses. He wasn't too sure what Maceala was doing when she was going around the world but he stood there like a champ. Jenna was a big help to Laura helping to move poles around. We can't wait till the right horse comes along for Jenna and she can join the group. Ashly rode Merrylegs, the smallest and cutest white little welsh pony. Ashly had fun cantering in both directions. Caleb rode pretty Sweetie Pie, a black Welsh/POA/Arabian pony. Caleb is getting better at keeping his heals down. Sweetie Pie had a baby, Blue Fancy Flame, on April 24. Fancy is almost weaned. We look forward to seeing Sweetie Pie lose her "pregnancy tummy".

The second hour did some gymnastics. Sarah rode Duke, the tallest TB in the group. Sarah got a big workout doing her whole lesson without stirrups. Both Ali A-S and Rachel were test driving new horses. They both rode their horses like they have been together for a long time. Kelly rode Delwin, a pretty black Welsh Cob pony. He has the fullest black tail. Even though he was the smallest, he could jump like the big guys. Emily rode Danny Boy, a solid little chestnut snowflake appy Mustang. Danny and Emily had trouble for the first couple of times jumping. The third time around they were finally flying.
