| RECYCLED DECORATING By Helen De Bruin Here are a few ideas where you can use recycled and pre-loved items in your decorating: Take an old framed window, cleaned and dry. Use a good quality decoupage glue and apply it to the glass. Add preserved flowers, leaves, nuts, seeds etc. When your picture window is complete, hang it up using hook and eyes and old wire for a rustic look. Use old balustrades and banisters, lean them up against a blank wall, then add flower garlands and entwine them between the rails. An old wooden chair, hung up on a bare wall can be used as a shelf to display collections. Old gates can be used as headboards. Salvaged doors can be hinged together with brass hinges to form a screen or room divider. Old doorknobs can be either mounted on a piece of wood, or fitted directly to the wall to be used as hooks for a variety of uses, including hats and coats, tea-towels, bath towels, or simply to hang a loved toy on. |
