| OUR SCHOOLROOM Earlier, I mentioned setting up our home to encourage learning and busy-ness. Although we realise that a whole room is not necessary for homeschooling, we have the blessing of having a room which has been converted into a 'schoolroom'. Although the children don't do much schoolwork in this room, we use the room often ~ for a variety of activities. It is the Activity Centre, if you will of our home. I thought you might enjoy a description of the schoolroom. On the north wall, Andre has made a full length cupboard. The shelves are custom-made to fit 28L plastic tubs. In these tubs we keep an assortment of craft supplies; stamping & stencilling, applique, material, art, clay, folk art, lego, Emma, Sarah and Sams current projects, gift wrapping, stationery, computer CDs, etc. The cupboard can hold approx 30 x 28L bins. They are clear plastic with coloured lids. On the east wall there is a wood and glass entry door (from the kitchen). There is also an alcove on this wall and a 4M length bench stretches the width of the alcove. On either side of the bench, there are two sets of shelves. A wall light directs light onto the work area. We refer to this 4M bench as our computer centre. Schoolbooks and mother culture books are kept on the shelves. On the other side of the alcove on this eastern wall, we have a little nook, where we have the phone and fax machine. And so - door, computer centre, phone nook. On the southern wall, we have a 2.5m workbench, with a shelf above it. This work bench and shelf continues around on the western wall, covering 6metres. The 2.5m workbench is used as our sewing centre, while the 6m bench is used for painting, sorting, constructing etc. Reading books go on these shelves, along with pretty boxes, nick-nacks, rag dolls, craft books, workbaskets, lamps and prints. Under the south and western wall benches, there are four sets of two x deep drawers. One set for momma and one set each for the children.
