| Elizabeth Gosnold My 3rd cousin 10 times removed through her great grandmother's sister, Alice Doggett;. My 3rd cousin 9 times removed through her great grandmother's brother, John Doggett. Born: before 20 July 1568. 1 Parents: ANTHONY GOSNOLD AND DOROTHY BACON Married: 1599. 3 Death: unknown. Burial: see Notes. Notes: Mentioned in the will of her great grandmother, Anne Doggett-Bacon-Gosnold. According to Elizabeth's will, she lies next to her husband at the medieval Shelley All Saints church near her home in Suffolk; however, the Bartholomew Gosnold DNA project has revealed otherwise. According to an Associated Press report dated 12:24 p.m. ET 7 June 2005, The Church of England granted permission for the DNA project to help identify the remains of Bartholomew Gosnold, believed to have been found at Jamestown, VA. The remains of Gosnold's sister, Elizabeth Gosnold Tilney, were believed to be under the floor of Shelley All Saints Church in Suffolk, England. Those of his niece, Katherine Blackerby, were thought to be in a vault at St. Peter and St. Mary Church in Stowmarket. According to a BBC UK report of 5 June 2005, an attempt to locate the remains of Katherine Blackerby was unsuccessful. Below the ledger stone for Thomas Blackerby, the archaeologists found the 19th century brick vault of the Boby family. Consequently, no human remains were disturbed. This report indicates that Elizabeth Tilney's remains were found and DNA extracted. But in a later report it was revealed that the DNA tests did not produce a match. Microscopic analysis showed that the woman was about 24 years too young to be his sister. As a result, it is now known that this is not the grave of Elizabeth Gosnold. This would also indicate that either she was not married to Thomas Tilney, or that he married again after her death. Spouse: THOMAS TILNEY of Shelley Hall, Suffolk, England. 2 Sources: 1.
