| Brittany Bahner 11-17-04 Per.1 Other Works by Mark Twain I read The First Writing-Machines from the unpublished autobiograph Mark Twain wrote. I thought it was very good and also interesting. He wrote about the very first type-machines. He said that when they first came out he was amazed by them and especially by the woman that could type fifty-seven words in a minute. The salesman that was selling them said that the type-machine was a curiosity and any person who owned them is also a curiosity. He was so interested in it that he actually bought one. After he brought it home, he ended up writing a letter to a boy named Edward Bok. He wrote The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and he was the first person in the world to apply the type- machine to literature. After a while he gave away his type-machine because he thought it was degrading to his character. The man he gave it to ended up giving it back, so it gave it away again and it continued. In the end no one wanted it. I think he is a very good writer. In this story he wrote, he describes everything in detail. I enjoy books a lot more when authors do that . It helps me picture in my head what is going on in the story. This story he wrote is also very interesting to me because I like to read about things in the past. I also like to read true stories although most of Mark Twains writings are fiction, I like the non-fiction better. But over all, I think it was a good story. |
