Gary is one of the 3 founders of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company of Chicago. He first appeared on the New York stage in the 1982 landmark production of Sam Shepard's True West starring John Malkovich. He also directed the production and received an Obie Award for direction. Gary also directed several Steppenwolf members in the film starring Richard Gere, and produced, directed and starred in the 1992 film adaptation of Of Mice and Men with John Malkovich. His television directing credits include episodes of "Thirtysometing," "China Beach," and "Crime Story." Gary's film credits include A Midnight Clear, Jack the Bear, The Quick and the Dead, Apollo 13, Ransom, Albino Alligator, Snake Eyes, Reindeer Games, The Green Mile, It's the Rage and Mission to Mars. His latest film, Imposter, is due later this year. Gary received an Academy award nomination and the National Board of review Award for his performance as Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump. |
