| Realizing the worst It felt as if cobwebs were filling his head as he tried to wake up from what seemed to be very effective sleeping pills. Pushing through the darkness and opening his eyes, Nick Carter sits up and looks around his room. He is finally home after spending a week in the hospital being put through test after test trying to figure out exactly how damaged his voice is. After a week of tests he is still clueless as to if he will ever sing again. If he'll ever be able to do what he so loves to on the road. His mother now was actually being a mother to him. After years of not being able to be in the same room with the woman, they can now sit in the same room and have conversations like a nornal family. Like a normal son and mother. That's why she was staying with him while he was recovering at home for a few more weeks. That's why she was at the hospital talking to the doctors about his test results that he so needed to hear. Everyone was walking on eggshells around him lately. No one would act like themselves. They seemed to feel the need to extra careful around in case he might break or somthing. Like he was a child who couldn't take care of himself. They were afraid he might go over the edge. When all he could see in their eyes was pity, he stopped looking. They were wrong to feel these things though. Everything was going to be fine. His mother was going to come home and tell him exactly what he already knew. That he was going to be okay. That he was going to heal. That life would move on and so would his career. It had to be. It was going to be okay. "Nick? Honey?... I'm back" The fact that she didn't sound happy to be home made something in his stomach sink. The fact that her voice cracked when she started to speak again made him start to panic. "Sweetie, the d-doctors told me...t-they told me....." Her voice caught. He couldn't even hear speaking anymore. Everything started buzzing in his head. Things were starting to spin. He was breaking apart. And right before he passed out he realized everything had gone wrong. He realized the worse. He had lost his voice. He lost everything. "....I'm so sorry, baby...." |
